A burst water main is leaving homes in Tipperary without water<\/p>\n
A major burst water main is leaving customers in Tipperary without water until Friday.<\/p>\n
Uisce \u00c9ireann confirmed that they are carrying out mains repair works which may cause disruptions to supply to the Coalbrook, Earlshill, Kilbraugh and surrounding areas of Tipperary.<\/p>\n
The works to repair the main are due to be completed by 10am on Friday, August 22, the utility added.<\/p>\n
“An alternative water supply will be available for affected homes in Earlshill and Kilbraugh. Containers will be available for affected properties to use until the supply is restored,\u201d Uisce \u00c9ireann said.<\/p>\n
“Uisce \u00c9ireann makes every effort to ensure that the alternative drinking water supply provided, including the tanker\/bowser, and dispensing tap, are adequately disinfected. However, as it is not practical to provide sterilised containers for the public to transport drinking water from the tanker to their homes, we cannot guarantee that any containers used by the public do not negatively impact or contaminate the drinking water,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n
Customers affected by the outage are advised to allow three to four hours after the estimated completion time for water supplies to fully return.<\/p>\n
Local councillor Michael \u2018Chicken\u2019 Brennan hit out at Uisce \u00c9ireann\u2019s statement in a post on his social media pages, saying it\u2019s \u201cnot much more than we knew already\u201d.<\/p>\n
Tipperary has been plagued by water outages this summer, with the entire county coming under a water conservation order in a bid to safeguard water supplies.<\/p>\n
The conservation order is set to remain in place until September 16, and comes following a long period of dry weather combined with high demand, which collectively are causing raw water sources throughout Tipperary to come under severe stress, according to Uisce \u00c9ireann.<\/p>\n
