Six people armed with military-grade weapons have used explosives to break into a gold refining laboratory in Lyon, slightly injuring five employees in the latest high-profile daytime heist to hit France<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The audacious raid took place on Thursday afternoon, with police quickly arresting the suspected perpetrators and recovering the loot estimated to be worth \u20ac12m (\u00a310.5m), officials said.<\/p>\n

Five employees of Laboratoires Pourquery were \u201cslightly injured in the explosion\u201d and three were taken to hospital for checks, the regional prefecture said. Twenty-eight employees were present when the robbers struck.<\/p>\n

The suspects, believed to be seasoned criminals, were detained shortly afterwards in the neighbouring town of V\u00e9nissieux, a source close to the case said.<\/p>\n

A woman, an accomplice who took part in the robbery, was also arrested, a police source said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSix people who used explosives in an attack on a precious metals company in Lyon were caught red-handed,\u201d the French interior minister, Laurent Nu\u00f1ez, said on X, praising officers for their \u201cfirmness, speed and control\u201d.<\/p>\n

Assault rifles, handguns and explosives were also seized.<\/p>\n

The robbery took place as French police on Thursday arrested five more people<\/a>, including a prime suspect, over this month\u2019s brazen Louvre museum robbery.<\/p>\n

Dozens of detectives have been hunting for four thieves who used a truck with a moving lift and cutting gear<\/a> to break into a first-floor gallery at the museum on 19 October, fleeing with jewellery worth an estimated \u20ac88m.<\/p>\n

In another high-profile raid, thieves last month broke into the French capital\u2019s Natural History Museum, making off with gold samples worth more than $1m. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was arrested earlier this month in Barcelona over the break-in and theft, prosecutors said.<\/p>\n
