{"id":155609,"date":"2025-10-31T16:35:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-31T16:35:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/155609\/"},"modified":"2025-10-31T16:35:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-31T16:35:12","slug":"stripping-of-andrews-titles-hailed-a-victory-by-family-of-virginia-giuffre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/155609\/","title":{"rendered":"Stripping of Andrew\u2019s titles hailed a \u2018victory\u2019 by family of Virginia Giuffre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>family of Virginia Giuffre<\/strong> said she had \u201cbrought down a prince\u201d after <strong>Andrew Mountbatten Windsor<\/strong>\u2019s public life as a royal was effectively ended by the King.<\/p>\n<p>Charles has taken the dramatic decision to formally strip his brother of his Prince and Duke of York titles and HRH style, while Andrew has also agreed to leave the Royal Lodge in Windsor.<\/p>\n<p>The disgraced royal, whose friendship with convicted paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein led to his downfall, will effectively have the status of a commoner and will be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.<\/p>\n<p>The monarchy was coming under increasing pressure to resolve the issues around Andrew, foremost his property arrangements, amid growing calls for him to give up Royal Lodge after it emerged he was paying a \u201cpeppercorn\u201d rent.<\/p>\n<p>As the eyes of the world remain fixed on the 30-bedroom mansion, it is unclear when Andrew will leave.<\/p>\n<p>He is to move into an undisclosed private residence on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk as soon as practicable, it is understood.<\/p>\n<p>Andrew had tainted the reputation of the royal family with his association with Epstein and, for many years, was dogged by allegations he sexually abused Ms Giuffre, who took her own life in April, after she was trafficked by the financier.<\/p>\n<p>He has strenuously denied the allegations.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement given to the BBC, Ms Giuffre\u2019s family said she had \u201cnever stopped fighting for accountability\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It said: \u201cToday, an ordinary American girl from an ordinary American family brought down a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVirginia Roberts Giuffre, our sister, a child when she was sexually assaulted by Andrew, never stopped fighting for accountability for what had happened to her and countless other survivors like her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, she declares a victory. NO SALES FILE PHOTO\"\/>The family of Virginia Giuffre said she \u2018declares a victory\u2019 but said that stripping Andrew of his titles is \u2018not enough\u2019 (Crime+Investigation\/PA)<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to BBC Newsnight, Ms Giuffre\u2019s brother, Sky Roberts, thanked the King for the Buckingham Palace statement that mentioned \u201cthoughts and utmost sympathies\u201d with \u201cvictims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cBut it\u2019s not enough, it\u2019s not enough, we have to have some sort of investigation that goes further into this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, he\u2019s (Andrew) still walking around a free man. I commend the King, I think he\u2019s doing an amazing job as a world leader, setting a precedent, but we need to take it one more step further: he (Andrew) needs to be behind bars, period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with US network CNN early on Thursday, Mr Roberts said: \u201c(Virginia) always said \u2018only one of us is telling the truth and I know that\u2019s me\u2019. His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFormal notice has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.
