\n\tThe Alchemist<\/a> has added his two cents on the topic that had Rap Twitter in a frenzy this week.<\/p>\n

\n\tOn Wednesday, Billboard reported<\/a> that, for the first time since 1990 \u2014 when Biz Markie<\/a>\u2018s signature song \u201cJust a Friend\u201d was at No. 41 on Feb. 2 \u2014 there were no rap songs in the Billboard Hot 100<\/a>\u2018s top 40, after Kendrick Lamar<\/a> and SZA<\/a>\u2018s smash hit \u201cLuther<\/a>\u201d was deemed recurrent and removed due to recent changes to the chart\u2019s methodology, effectively ending a 35-year streak. Recurrent songs<\/a> will now be removed if they\u2019ve been on the chart for a certain amount of time while simultaneously falling under certain chart thresholds. \u201cLuther\u201d had fallen under No. 25 to No. 38 the previous week during its 46th week.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis news caused a stir on social media and predictably inspired takes from all corners of the Internet, and on Friday morning (Oct. 31), the legendary producer shared his thoughts on X.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNo rap in top 40 has nothing to do with the music being bad or good,\u201d he wrote<\/a> without any further elaboration.<\/p>\n

\n\tLike ALC, others have also taken notice<\/a> and have begun to sound the alarm<\/a> when it comes to rap\u2019s commercial dominance trending down in recent years. In 2023, there weren\u2019t any rap albums to top the Billboard 200<\/a> or rap songs to top the Hot 100, until Lil Uzi Vert<\/a>\u2018s third album the Pink Tape in July<\/a> and Doja Cat<\/a>\u2018s song \u201cPaint the Town Red\u201d in September<\/a>, respectively. Right now, the highest-charting rap song is \u201cShot Callin\u201d by NBA YoungBoy<\/a> at No. 44, followed by Cardi B<\/a>\u2018s \u201cSafe\u201d (featuring Kehlani<\/a>) at No. 48 and BigXthaPlug<\/a>\u2019s \u201cHell at Night\u201d (featuring Ella Langley<\/a>) at No. 49.<\/p>\n
