Cillian Murphy<\/a> plays the impassioned headteacher of a last-chance reform school in a trailer for Netflix<\/a> film Steve. <\/p>\n

Set in the mid-1990s and directed by Tim Mielants, the movie follows a pivotal day in the life of Steve (Murphy) and his students, who exist in a world that has abandoned them.<\/p>\n

The drama is a reimagining of Max Porter\u2019s Sunday Times bestseller Shy<\/a>, named after its protagonist, a teenager who boards at the school on a programme for troubled youths.<\/p>\n

The trailer shows Murphy\u2019s character describing himself to a film crew as \u201cvery, very tired\u201d amid clips of violence among pupils. <\/p>\n

In a voiceover, he adds: \u201cThese are extraordinarily complex young people.\u201d <\/p>\n

Other scenes see Steve speaking to Shy, drinking an unknown substance from a small transparent bottle, and screaming while clenching his fists.<\/p>\n

I May Destroy You<\/a> star Jay Lycurgo plays Shy, a troubled teenager who needs to reconcile with his past and control his impulses for self-destruction and violence.<\/p>\n

The movie shows Shy\u2019s interactions with Steve, who in turn is grappling with his mental health as he fights to protect the school from closure.<\/p>\n

The supporting cast includes Tracey Ullman and Emily Watson<\/a>, who starred with Murphy in the Irish drama Small Things Like These<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Murphy (49), who is a producer for Steve, won a Bafta and Oscar last year for his title role in Christopher Nolan\u2019s<\/a> epic Oppenheimer<\/a>. <\/p>\n

He also plays Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby in the hit TV series Peaky Blinders, which is being turned into a film for Netflix and will also star Saltburn\u2019s<\/a> Barry Keoghan<\/a>.<\/p>\n
