{"id":158115,"date":"2025-11-02T02:56:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-02T02:56:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/158115\/"},"modified":"2025-11-02T02:56:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-02T02:56:08","slug":"tributes-paid-at-letterkenny-court-following-death-of-popular-barrister","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/158115\/","title":{"rendered":"Tributes paid at Letterkenny court following death of popular barrister"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tributes have been paid at Letterkenny Circuit Court following the death of popular barrister Mr Joe Barnes.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr Barnes BL, who lived in County Leitrim, was a native of Stepaside in County Dublin, passed away suddenly at home on October 28.<\/p>\n<p>Judge John Aylmer paid tribute to a \u201cwonderful colleague and friend\u201d. Mr Barnes practised in the Midlands and Northern Circuits since the early 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Aylmer recalled how Mr Barnes was a year ahead of him in school and said he knew him very well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Barnes.jpg\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-cGVuY2ktZ2FsbGVyeS1pbWFnZS1jb250ZW50\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-612592\" class=\"size-full wp-image-612592\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Barnes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"188\" height=\"235\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-612592\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The late Joe Barnes, RIP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a great professional colleague and an even greater friend,\u201d Judge Aylmer said. He told how Mr Barnes was a wonderful photographer who loved boating and was \u201cvery close to nature\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Aylmer conveyed his sincere condolence to Mr Barnes\u2019 family, friends and colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Barrister Colm Smyth SC, on behalf of the Bar, said the news of Mr Barnes\u2019 passing was \u201cakin to losing a member of the family\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Smyth remembered Mr Barnes as being \u201chelpful, cooperative and kind\u201d and said he looked after the young people of the Bar. He said Mr Barnes fought his health issues with great fortitude.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be a great loss,\u201d Mr Smyth said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Barnes will be sadly missed by his beloved daughter Rebecca, his old pal Eileen Heron and his wide circle of friends.<\/p>\n<p>He was predeceased by his loving parents Do and Eamonn and his passing will be mourned by his brothers Paul and John, sisters Mary Jane and Ruth, nieces, nephews, and his extended families.<\/p>\n<p>His funeral will take place on Monday morning at St. Mary\u2019s Church, Sandyford Village arriving for 10am Mass, followed thereafter to Kilternan Cemetery Park.<\/p>\n<p>Tributes paid at Letterkenny court following death of popular barrister was last modified:  October 31st, 2025 by Staff Writer<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tTags:<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Tributes have been paid at Letterkenny Circuit Court following the death of popular barrister Mr Joe Barnes.
