And that\u2019s really a problem because if you can\u2019t be heard, you\u2019re going to be excluded naturally from the conversation,\u201d said Matt (58), who was diagnosed 15 years ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The study found that people with Parkinson\u2019s experience a wide range of symptoms that can take a heavy social and emotional toll.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">It highlights the need for better support immediately after diagnosis, including clear communication, education and access to counselling or peer-support groups.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The HSE said around 18,000 people in Ireland are living with Parkinson\u2019s disease, with incidence rates of 1\u20132 per 1,000 in the general population and one in 100 among those over 80, while roughly 10pc of cases are diagnosed before age 50.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The HSE says it funds a range of community services and supports to help people with disabilities, including Parkinson\u2019s, to live as independently as possible.
