{"id":161016,"date":"2025-11-03T19:55:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-03T19:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/161016\/"},"modified":"2025-11-03T19:55:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-03T19:55:08","slug":"company-sues-over-use-of-allegedly-confusingly-similar-name-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/161016\/","title":{"rendered":"Company sues over use of allegedly confusingly similar name \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">An Irish registered company and its US parent are being sued in the Commercial Court for infringement of its trademark logo. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">AlphaSights Ltd, which is registered in England and Wales and provides expert network services for a variety of businesses, is suing AlphaSense Inc and its Waterford-based subsidiary Tegus Ltd over its use of an allegedly confusingly similar name. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">On Monday, Mr Justice Mark Sanfey admitted the case on consent to the fast track commercial list on the application of Johathan Newman SC, for Alphasights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In an affidavit, Naida Khan, London-based managing counsel for AlphaSights, said the extent of the confusion caused by AlphaSense\u2019s activity \u201cis intolerable\u201d. The scale and frequency of damage continues unabated, she said, and compounds the damage to AlphaSights\u2019 brand. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">AlphaSense and AlphaSights are currently involved in pending litigation in the US and England, he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The confusion caused extends to emails going to the wrong company and, in the US, and invoices being sent to the wrong entity, Ms Khan said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The confusion has been exacerbated by AlphaSense organising a conference last month in New York called an Alphasummit, which was available to a global audience. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In its Irish proceedings, AlphaSense is also seeking damages and an injunction prohibiting the defendant from passing off its trademark. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"An Irish registered company and its US parent are being sued in the Commercial Court for infringement of&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":79450,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[73],"tags":[79,18,10476,19,17],"class_list":{"0":"post-161016","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-business","8":"tag-business","9":"tag-eire","10":"tag-high-court","11":"tag-ie","12":"tag-ireland"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@ie\/115487527644685817","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/161016","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=161016"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/161016\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/79450"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=161016"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=161016"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=161016"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
