Instead, it delves into how an earnest student from a respectable working-class family comes to embrace such evils.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIt unfortunately always goes back to the parents, but in this case the accused, Jamie Miller (Limited-Anthology Series Supporting Actor Emmy nominee Owen Cooper), isn\u2019t living with parents who are acerbic (they are played by Emmy-nominated lead actor Graham and supporting actress nominee Christine Tremarco). But Jamie has a bitterly fierce side which he unveils to the trial\u2019s therapist (supporting actress nominee Erin Doherty), one which isn\u2019t immediately observed by the detective (supporting actor nominee Ashley Walters) who is looking to balance most scales in the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Adolescence-06.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"577\" width=\"1024\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t(L-R) Owen Cooper, Stephen Graham and Ashley Walters<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tVioleta Sofia for Deadline<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tUpping the stakes here in the drama is the challenge that the entire series was filmed in one shot. How did casting director <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/shaheen-baig\/\" id=\"auto-tag_shaheen-baig\" data-tag=\"shaheen-baig\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shaheen Baig<\/a> assemble such an acting troupe that could put Adolescence over the top? In particular, where did she find Cooper as well as other young cast members who had never acted before on screen. We speak with Baig today on a special <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/crew-call\/\" id=\"auto-tag_crew-call\" data-tag=\"crew-call\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Crew Call<\/a> Live about the net she cast, her emergence in the trade under casting director mentors Debbie McWilliams (of the 007 films) and Patsy Pollock (The Hours, Billy Elliot), as well as lifelong career lessons learned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHow did Cooper win the part and beat out hundreds? <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSays Baig, \u201cHe just listened. He really, really listened. He listened to Stephen. He kind of leant into what Stephen was doing, and he concentrated, and he made it feel very instinctive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cAlso, he looked very young and very sort of sweet. He had clarity. He had a sort of openness that felt very natural. And so combining all of those things, plus his ability to just keep going, felt very rare in that first episode.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFor the first time in her near 30-year career as a casting director, Baig landed her first Emmy nomination \u2014 that being in the Limited Series, Anthology or Movie Casting category.
