{"id":162260,"date":"2025-11-04T12:18:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-04T12:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/162260\/"},"modified":"2025-11-04T12:18:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T12:18:07","slug":"david-beckham-receives-knighthood-for-services-to-football-and-british-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/162260\/","title":{"rendered":"David Beckham receives knighthood for services to football and British society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Former England captain Sir David Beckham has been formally knighted for his services to football and British society. <\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 50-year-old, who was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/football\/articles\/cm2309dlepno\" class=\"ssrcss-k8mrr8-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">named on King Charles&#8217; Birthday Honours list<\/a> earlier this year, was knighted by the King during a ceremony in Berkshire on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I couldn&#8217;t be prouder,&#8221; said Beckham.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;People know how patriotic I am &#8211; I love my country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve always said how important the monarchy is to my family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;m lucky enough to have travelled around the world and all people want to talk to me about is our monarchy. It makes me proud.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder played 115 times for his country and captained the Three Lions for six years between 2000 and 2006.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He played in three World Cups for England, as well as two European Championships. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Beckham emerged from Manchester United&#8217;s academy in 1992 and spent 11 years in the first team before joining Real Madrid in 2003 in a \u00a325m deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He played for four years in the Spanish capital before joining Major League Soccer team LA Galaxy.
