{"id":164525,"date":"2025-11-05T16:36:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T16:36:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/164525\/"},"modified":"2025-11-05T16:36:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T16:36:10","slug":"strong-finish-sees-gaelcholaiste-mhuire-take-derby-win-over-cbc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/164525\/","title":{"rendered":"Strong finish sees Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire take derby win over CBC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">\n<p>                Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire An Mhainistir Thuaidh 2-21<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\n<p>                Christian Brothers College 2-19<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The scenes at the end showed what it meant as Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire An Mhainistir Thuaidh came out on top in their TUS Dr Harty Cup derby with Christian Brothers College.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">With neither side having won their opening matches in Group 4, Wednesday\u2019s clash at the SuperValu P\u00e1irc U\u00ed Chaoimh 4G pitch took on a quasi-knockout feel and was played in a frenetic nature that matched that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire roared into a 1-2 to 0-1 lead but then conceded an unanswered 2-6 as Christians appeared to have taken control of the game. By half-time, the Sidney Hill outfit were 2-14 to 2-11 to the good but \u2018the AG\u2019 secured parity early in the second half and from there the sides duked it out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Eoghan O\u2019Shea\u2019s free for CBC &#8211; when he had advantage after a superb goal-saving <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">intervention by Nathan \u00d3 Cofaigh to deny him &#8211; put CBC 2-17 to 2-16 ahead on 49 minutes but it was the last time they led.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Full-back Ryan \u00d3 Croin\u00edn had Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire level before Craig \u00d3 S\u00failleabh\u00e1in put them back in front and Gabhan \u00d3 Ceacllach\u00e1in\u2019s 65 gave them their biggest lead since early in the first half.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They had might have buttressed that advantage with another goal but Callum \u00d3 Cofaigh was denied by good David Kingston defending. However, while Se\u00e1n Hurley halved the deficit, an equaliser remained elusive as both sides wasted chances in the jittery closing minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u00d3 S\u00failleabh\u00e1in made it a two-point game again and, though CBC sub Bobby Power left it 2-20 to 2-19 going into injury time, \u00d3 Ceallach\u00e1in had the final say and the final whistle released a dam of emotion for those in blue and white.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4848009_8_articleinlinemobile_LC_20harty_20hurl_2011.jpg\" alt=\" Callum \u00d3 Cofaigh of Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire takes a shot. Picture: Larry Cummins<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">They are still likely to need something from their last match against Templemore but that they battled back from a tough early position to repeat the outcome of last season\u2019s O\u2019Callaghan Cup final will give them lots of belief going forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">While \u00d3 S\u00failleabh\u00e1in\u2019s early goal was the centre-piece of their fine start, CBC soon settled and began to land points from all over the field. When O\u2019Shea drilled a low free to the net, they were 1-4 to 1-2 ahead and Jack Hegarty and Michael Quill followed points before Hurley added a goal &#8211; Ben Hegarty having broken Cian Lawton\u2019s delivery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Points from \u00d3 Ceallach\u00e1in got the AG going again and they were in it when Josh \u00d3 Brosnach\u00e1in\u2019s ball towards the CBC goalmouth wasn\u2019t dealt with and Callum \u00d3 Cofaigh was able to finish smartly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Christians stayed in front until the break &#8211; they had nine first-half scorers and no wides &#8211; but a point on the restart from Gaelchol\u00e1iste Mhuire\u2019s Trevor \u00d3 Bruadau &#8211; excellent throughout &#8211; set the tone for them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4848012_8_articleinlinemobile_LC_20harty_20hurl_2004.jpg\" alt=\" Cian Lawton of CBC in possessin.
