{"id":166382,"date":"2025-11-06T17:09:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T17:09:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/166382\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T17:09:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T17:09:15","slug":"alibaba-backed-moonshot-releases-new-ai-model-kimi-k2-thinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/166382\/","title":{"rendered":"Alibaba-backed Moonshot releases new AI model Kimi K2 Thinking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Alibaba-backed Chinese startup Moonshot has launched one of the more popular generative AI chatbots called Kimi.<\/p>\n<p>Sopa Images | Lightrocket | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Chinese startup Moonshot on Thursday released its latest generative artificial intelligence model which claims to beat OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT in &#8220;agentic&#8221; capabilities \u2014 or understanding what a user wants without explicit step-by-step instructions.<\/p>\n<p>The model, called &#8220;Kimi K2 Thinking,&#8221; builds on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/14\/alibaba-backed-moonshot-releases-kimi-k2-ai-rivaling-chatgpt-claude.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">K2 model released in July<\/a> by Beijing-based Moonshot, which is backed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/BABA\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alibaba<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The update comes as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a> CEO Jensen Huang this week again <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/11\/06\/jensen-huang-says-china-will-win-the-ai-race-before-clarifying-in-a-statement-nvidia-trump-xi.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">urged the U.S. to press ahead<\/a> in a race against Chinese-developed AI.\u00a0Some major U.S. companies such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-10-21\/airbnb-ceo-brian-chesky-says-chatgpt-integration-not-ready-for-airbnb-app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Airbnb have\u00a0begun to\u00a0publicly tout<\/a> how\u00a0some Chinese AI models <strong>are<\/strong> as viable \u2014 and often cheaper \u2014 alternatives to OpenAI&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>Despite U.S. restrictions on Chinese businesses&#8217; access to high-end chips, companies such as DeepSeek have released AI models that are open sourced and with user fees a fraction of ChatGPT&#8217;s.<\/p>\n<p>DeepSeek also claimed it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/01\/30\/chinas-deepseek-has-some-big-ai-claims-not-all-experts-are-convinced-.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">spent $5.6 million<\/a> for its V3 model\u00a0\u2014\u00a0in contrast to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/09\/06\/openai-business-to-burn-115-billion-through-2029-the-information.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">billions spent by OpenAI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Kimi K2 Thinking model cost $4.6 million to train, according to a source familiar with the matter. <\/p>\n<p>It can automatically select 200 to 300 tools to complete tasks on its own, reducing the need for human intervention according to Moonshot. CNBC was unable to independently verify the DeepSeek or Kimi figures. <br \/>DeepSeek last month released a new AI model that claims to improve performance by using visual clues to expand the context of information it is processing at once.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Alibaba-backed Chinese startup Moonshot has launched one of the more popular generative AI chatbots called Kimi.
