Even the composer of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/avatar-fire-and-ash\/\" id=\"auto-tag_avatar-fire-and-ash\" data-tag=\"avatar-fire-and-ash\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Avatar: Fire and Ash<\/a> got into the act, with <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/simon-franglen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_simon-franglen\" data-tag=\"simon-franglen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Simon Franglen<\/a> revealing he invented some instruments that were used in his score for the film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFire and Ash refers to two new tribes of Na\u2019vi introduced in the film. The Windtraders are a flying tribe with magnificent crafts to soar above Pandora.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThe Windtraders are like the Phoenecians of old,\u201d Franglen said on a panel at Deadline\u2019s Sound &amp; Screen, appearing virtually while he completes the score for the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/20th-century-studios\/\" id=\"auto-tag_20th-century-studios\" data-tag=\"20th-century-studios\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">20th Century Studios<\/a> film that opens December 19. \u201cThey are sophisticated and I wanted the music to have a sophisticated air. They also travel in these phenomenal ships that are 800-feet tall so they needed a signal that was grand but had scale but also flew and floated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tNo Earth-based instruments fit the bill for Franglen, so he made up new ones. He began back in 2018.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cFor that, I designed the instruments for the Windtraders to play,\u201d Franglen said. \u201cI sketched out instruments, gave them to Dylan Cole, the production designer. He then made them into something useful. Then the prop master 3D-printed them. So we have real instruments that are played.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe Ash are a vicious tribe.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThe Ash, on the other hand, are chaos agents,\u201d Franglen said. \u201cThey want to burn the world down. This allowed me to completely change the textures that we\u2019ve always had as part of Avatar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/wp-content\/themes\/pmc-deadline-2019\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.jpg\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Avatar-Fire-And-Ash-Sound-And-Screen.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-lazy- data-lazy- height=\"683\" width=\"1024\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGraham Foote conducting at Deadline\u2019s Sound &amp; Screen: Film<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFor the Ash, Franglen did know instruments he could use, utilizing old synthesizers and a regional instrument he discovered during his travels.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cI had been lucky enough to spend some time in Inner Mongolia about a decade ago,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s an Instrument called the morin khuur which is carried on your back and is a sort of strong viola played with two strings. It can be played with a real frenzy, and that became the core sound of the Ash.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tFranglen said Cameron is waiting on the reception to Fire and Ash to move forward with Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. A <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/10\/miley-cyrus-avatar-fire-and-ash-original-song-1236593238\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1236593238\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miley Cyrus song<\/a> for Fire and Ash will be released later this month, Franglen said.
