Imagine driving down the road when suddenly a herd of elephants begins crossing right in front of you. Of course, you\u2019d stop, not just to let them pass safely, but also to soak in the incredible experience of watching it happen. Wildlife Rescuers shared a video on TikTok recently of that happening, and it’s a moment we’re sure the people who recorded the scene will never forget.<\/p>\n
Watch as an entire herd of elephants quickly crosses the road. There are adults, babies, and toddlers all crossing together. It’s an incredible thing to see! However, what happens at the very end of the short video is completely unexpected…and completely beautiful.<\/p>\n
What an incredible experience, especially the wave at the end! We’re sure the people who got to see this will treasure this memory forever. Wildlife Rescuers described it as “a quiet, touching moment of respect and gratitude between the animals and the people.” Well said!<\/p>\n

She makes decisions for the group, including where to find food, water, and safe paths<\/a>. A typical herd is made up of related females and their young, while adult males usually leave the herd when they reach adolescence and either live alone or form small bachelor groups.<\/p>\n Herds are highly social and cooperative. Members care for each other\u2019s calves<\/a>, communicate through touch, sound, and even low-frequency vibrations, and show strong bonds of protection<\/a>, learning, and support. The matriarch\u2019s experience and memory are crucial for the herd\u2019s survival<\/a>.”<\/p>\n Elephant Guide<\/a> shared more about elephant herds, “The elephant herd can consist of up to 100 individuals with several females and baby calves<\/a> and only one older bull. The elephant herd can split into several smaller herds (or \u201celephant units\u201d) if the group is too big.”<\/p>\n We loved this fact that the Guide also shared, “Elders are the most respected individuals in elephant society (except for the matriarch), and it is very much expected that young elephants show respect towards their elders by greeting, touching trunks<\/a>, and making friendly noises to and at them.
