Irish shoppers were issued with a number of urgent warnings this week as various food products were pulled from supermarket shelves over health fears.<\/p>\n

Below is a round-up of the recall notices<\/a> issued over the past week, with wine, chicken and chocolate products sold in Irish stores among the items shoppers have been warned to avoid.<\/p>\n

Vale View Schuyler Irish Grown Red Wine<\/p>\n

Last week, a popular red wine was urgently recalled<\/a> after safety chiefs issued an urgent health warning <\/a>for a specific batch.<\/p>\n

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland<\/a> (FSAI) is advising certain people who have purchased the affected bottle to stop drinking it immediately.<\/p>\n

The recall affects a specific batch of Vale View Schuyler Irish Grown Red Wine 2023, after it was found to contain sulphur dioxide<\/a>, which is not listed in the ingredients.<\/p>\n

The above batch of Vale View Schuyler Irish Grown Red Wine has been recalled as it contains sulphur dioxide which is not declared in the list of ingredients<\/p>\n

A ‘do not drink’ warning has been issued to people who are allergic to or intolerant of sulphur dioxide, as the ingredient could pose serious health risks.<\/p>\n

The affected bottles have the batch code 2023Sch01.<\/p>\n

Sulphur dioxide is commonly used as a preservative in wine and other foods. People who are allergic or intolerant may experience symptoms such as headaches, wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, skin rashes, hives or nausea. In severe cases, it can trigger an asthma attack or other serious reactions.<\/p>\n

Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um’s<\/p>\n

Aldi recently issued an urgent recall<\/a> for a popular bag of sweets amid concerns it could pose a serious health risk<\/a> to some consumers.<\/p>\n

The FSAI is warning certain people who purchased the item to stop eating it immediately and return it to an Aldi store for a full refund.<\/p>\n

\"AccordingAccording to the FSAI, peanuts may be present in all batches of Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um’s however they are not declared in the list of ingredients<\/p>\n

The recall affects all batches of Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um’s, priced at \u20ac1.89, that may contain peanuts which is not listed on the label. A ‘do not eat’ warning has been issued to people who are allergic or intolerant of peanuts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The FSAI <\/a>said: “Peanuts may be present in all batches of Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um’s however they are not declared in the list of ingredients. This may make the product unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of peanuts and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated product. The affected product is being recalled from Aldi stores.”<\/p>\n

Aldi <\/a>has apologised for any inconvenience caused. A spokesperson said: “As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling Dairyfine Crispy Choc Um’s because it may contain peanuts. Anyone who bought this product should return it to their nearest store for a full refund. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.<\/p>\n

“We have removed this product from sale in all stores and are recalling all affected products. Do not consume the product if you have an allergy or intolerance and return the product to your nearest store for a full refund.”<\/p>\n

Templetuohy Farm Fresh Foods chicken products<\/p>\n

Four chicken products were recalled<\/a> by the FSAI this week over the possible presence of salmonella<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Although the affected products are past their sell-by date, they are suitable for home freezing and consumers have been advised to check their freezers for the implicated batches.<\/p>\n

The products in question are various batches of four types of Templetuohy Farm Fresh Foods chicken products, reports RSVP Live<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a statement, the FSAI wrote: “The below batches of Templetuohy Farm Fresh Foods chicken products are being recalled due to the possible presence of Salmonella.<\/p>\n

“Although these batches are past their use by date, they are suitable for home freezing. Consumers are advised to check their freezers for the implicated batches. Recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale.<\/p>\n

“Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale. Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.”<\/p>\n

The FSAI reminded consumers of the dangers of salmonella and the symptoms associated with infection.<\/p>\n

\"AffectedThe affected batches<\/p>\n

“People infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours. The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps.<\/p>\n

“The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days. Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission. The elderly, infants, and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.”<\/p>\n
