{"id":170694,"date":"2025-11-09T01:49:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T01:49:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/170694\/"},"modified":"2025-11-09T01:49:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T01:49:10","slug":"darragh-fitzgibbon-follows-up-all-star-by-helping-charleville-footballers-beat-ballygarvan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/170694\/","title":{"rendered":"Darragh Fitzgibbon follows up All-Star by helping Charleville footballers beat Ballygarvan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">\n             Charleville 0-15 (0-2-11) Ballygarvan 0-11 (0-2-7)\n        <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">An upset in the JAFC quarter-final tie at Glenville with Charleville advancing after a hard-fought win over Ballygarvan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Both sides had their moments but Ballygarvan were 0-10 to 0-8 up following a point by Cork footballer Sean Brady, who came off the bench as he recovers from injury, entering the last quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Avondhu champions Charleville took over from there, outscoring the Carrigdhound side 0-7 to 0-1, including an effort from Darragh Fitzgibbon who collected his third hurling All-Star the night before.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A key moment came after 55 minutes after Charleville moved 0-12 to 0-11 up. Brady cut through in search of a goal for Ballygarvan but he was denied by Jesse Smith from close range, conceding a 45 which clipped the upright and was cleared.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Great points by Robert Carroll (2) and Fitzgibbon, after good play by James O&#8217;Brien, set up a county semi-final meeting with Kilmacabea.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4852605_1_articleinlinemobile_EOHChargarvan03.jpg\" alt=\"Ballygarvan's Evan O'Connor is tackled by Charleville's Oran O'Connell. Picture: Eddie O&#8217;Hare<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Charleville dominated the opening 12 minutes but were unable to get on the scoresheet before Ballygarvan opened with an Evan O&#8217;Connor point.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The South East side hit a purple patch, Niall Dowd pointing before Smith saved well from Evan O&#8217;Connor. Dowd set up Dylan O&#8217;Connor for a fine two-pointer. Then Dowd and Piaras O&#8217;Halloran combined for a two-point free that Dowd converted to make it 0-6 to 0-0.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In the 13th minute, Jack Callaghan opened the Charleville account with a two-point free followed by a Darren Casey white flag. A foul on Darren Butler led to another two-point free by Jack Callaghan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Patient build-up by Oran O&#8217;Connell, Jack Meade, Casey and Buckley led to a foul and Callaghan levelling at 0-6 each.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ballygarvan introduced the returning Brady early in the second half but Charleville hit the front when Conor Buckley set up Jack Buckley.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Dowd levelled after good play by Brady, 0-8 each, and an Evan O&#8217;Connor free followed by a Brady score pushed Ballygarvan two ahead.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">That was before Charleville&#8217;s better balance told in those final 10 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4852608_1_articleinlinemobile_EOHChargarvan01.jpg\" alt=\"Charleville's Brian O'Connell gets above Ballygarvan's Piaras O'Halloran.
