{"id":170965,"date":"2025-11-09T06:08:28","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T06:08:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/170965\/"},"modified":"2025-11-09T06:08:28","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T06:08:28","slug":"e250000-for-tipperary-public-toilet-revamp-blasted-as-another-huge-waste-of-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/170965\/","title":{"rendered":"\u20ac250,000 for Tipperary public toilet revamp blasted as \u2018another huge waste of funding\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Funding of \u20ac250,000 was allocated to Tipperary County Council to revamp the block of public toilets in the Market Yard in Tipperary town last year, and works on the facility have started this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Tipperary County Council gave notice that the public toilets would close from Monday, November 3 until further notice while the works are underway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The funding came from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme, and is for the refurbishment and provision of universal access including mother and baby facilities at the public toilets in Market Yard in Tipperary town.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">&#8220;This will also include facilities for walkers and cyclists using the new and proposed walkways in the town,\u201d the Town and Village Renewal Scheme allocation said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">It is understood that the layout of the facilities will be changed, with an existing flower bed at the end of the building being removed, while the entrance doors will be moved to facilitate this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">A bicycle rack with electric charging units and a water fountain to refill water bottles will also be installed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">However, many locals on social media have hit out at the \u20ac250,000 funding allocation, questioning whether a sum of money this large would be better spent elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cWhat a joke. \u20ac250,000. Money could be spent on better projects around this town of ours,\u201d one person said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">&#8220;Another huge waste of funding in this town. Not like the town hasn&#8217;t had water properly in three weeks and I\u2019m without in my kitchen for two weeks, no lights throughout one end of town and traffic lights that barely work.
