{"id":171836,"date":"2025-11-09T18:26:27","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T18:26:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/171836\/"},"modified":"2025-11-09T18:26:27","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T18:26:27","slug":"i-in-creates-new-form-of-japanese-luxury-for-ginza-lounge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/171836\/","title":{"rendered":"I IN creates &#8220;new form of Japanese luxury&#8221; for Ginza Lounge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Shiny aluminium, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/washi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">washi paper<\/a> details and a reflective ceiling decorate this colour-saturated lounge in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/tokyo\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tokyo<\/a>, which local studio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/i-in\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">I IN<\/a> designed at department store Matsuya Ginza.<\/p>\n<p>The VIP lounge has a white colour palette with details picked out in Edo purple \u2013 a deep purple hue that holds historical significance in Japan and used to be associated with nobility.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2264043 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/i-in-ginza-lounge_dezeen_2364_col_8-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Lounge in Tokyo department store\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>The lounge is located at the Matsuya Ginza department store<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Edo purple was chosen as a subtle yet profound accent \u2013 a tone of quiet strength and dignity,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/i-in.jp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">I IN<\/a> co-founder Hiromu Yuyama told Dezeen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Against the luminous white that defines the space, it conveys both modernity and the timeless grace of Japanese aesthetics.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2264036 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/i-in-ginza-lounge_dezeen_2364_col_1-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Reception area of Ginza Lounge\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Visitors first enter via a reception with a modernist design<\/p>\n<p>The studio wanted the 348-square-metre <a href=\"https:\/\/www.matsuyaginza.com\/en\/theginzalounge\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ginza Lounge<\/a> to have a modern, luxurious feel. Located in the Matsuya Ginza store in central Tokyo, it will be reserved for the store&#8217;s VIP customers, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.global.jcb\/en\/consumers\/platinum\/ginza_lounge\/index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">JCB cardholders<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The project set out to express a new form of Japanese luxury \u2013 one that feels light, refined and attuned to the next generation,&#8221; Yuyama said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In Ginza, where tradition and innovation coexist, we sought to create a space where calmness and vitality quietly intersect.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2264058 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/i-in-ginza-lounge_dezeen_2364_col_22-852x1136.jpg\" alt=\"Purple room in Tokyo deaortment store\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\"  \/>One room was completely covered in Edo purple<\/p>\n<p>To do so, I IN used a variety of reflective and glossy materials, including aluminium tables and lacquered walls and ceilings.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ginza, a city defined by tsuya \u2013 gloss \u2013 inspired us to work with materials that capture light and emotion,&#8221; Yuyama explained.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/01\/21\/i-in-office-lounge-museum-tower-kyobashi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/i-in-office-lounge-tokyo_dezeen_2364_col_sq3-191x191.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Green plants in Tokyo office\" decoding=\"async\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\"  \/><\/p>\n<p> I IN creates &#8220;living lounge&#8221; for Tokyo office in museum building\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The shiny surfaces were contrasted with more tactile natural materials, while the almost all-white interior helps bring light into the lounge.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Polished aluminium, hinoki cypress and softly illuminated washi surfaces together translate Ginza&#8217;s radiance into architecture, turning light itself into the material of the space,&#8221; Yuyama said.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2264046 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/i-in-ginza-lounge_dezeen_2364_col_11-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Central area of Ginza Lounge\" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Purple sofas and rugs contrast with white walls<\/p>\n<p>Visitors enter via a modernist reception space with a marble desk and shoji screens, which leads into a relaxing lounge section with purple sofas and steel tables.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the lounge, a room entirely painted in Edo purple houses a larger table for meetings, a lacquered red display case and more lounge chairs and sofas.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2264062 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/i-in-ginza-lounge_dezeen_2364_col_25-852x568.jpg\" alt=\"Overview of Ginza Lounge \" width=\"2364\" height=\"1576\"  \/>Shoji screens divide the spaces<\/p>\n<p>Sliding shoji screens with washi-paper panels were used throughout to delineate the different spaces, while geometric paper lamps and abstract paintings add a modern touch to the space.<\/p>\n<p>Other recent Tokyo projects by I IN include a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/05\/08\/i-in-blue-bottle-coffee-takanawa-cafe\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Blue Bottle Coffee cafe in Takanawa<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/2025\/01\/21\/i-in-office-lounge-museum-tower-kyobashi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;living lounge&#8221;
