Does a box-office flop even count when it\u2019s a passion project? Sydney Sweeney, at least, is okay with the fact that her boxing biopic, Christy<\/a>, was not a knockout at the box office. She\u2019s still \u201cdeeply proud of this movie,\u201d she said in a November 10 Instagram carousel of stills and BTS moments. Christy made just $1.3 million at the box office in its opening\u00a0weekend, putting it in the top ten all-time worst opening weekends for a movie opening on over 2,000 screens, per Box Office Mojo<\/a>. \u201cso yes I\u2019m proud,\u201d she wrote. \u201cwhy? because we don\u2019t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. and christy has been the most impactful project of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n Sweeney stars as boxer Christy Martin throughout her successes in the ring as well as her abusive marriage to her much-older manager, James V. Martin (Ben Foster). \u201cthis film stands for survival, courage, and hope,\u201d Sweeney wrote. \u201cthrough our campaigns, we\u2019ve helped raise awareness for so many affected by domestic violence. we all signed on to this film with the belief that christy\u2019s story could save lives.\u201d Intimate-partner violence is \u201ca very personal issue that\u2019s important to me,\u201d Sweeney told Variety<\/a> in an October 27 interview, adding, \u201cI hope that through Christy and her story, it can raise more awareness.\u201d \u201cthank you to everyone who saw, felt, and believed and will believe in this story for years to come,\u201d Sweeney said in her caption.\u00a0\u201cif christy gave even one woman the courage to take her first step toward safety, then we will have succeeded.\u201d<\/p>\n\n Related<\/p>\n
