\n\tForty years after four women in Miami redefined what TV friendship looked like, \u201cThe Golden Girls<\/a>\u201d is returning to primetime. ABC<\/a> will air \u201cThe Golden Girls: 40 Years of Laughter and Friendship \u2013 A Special Edition of 20\/20\u201d on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 10 p.m. ET, celebrating the beloved sitcom\u2019s enduring cultural legacy with rare behind-the-scenes footage, cast interviews and reflections from celebrity fans.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe hourlong special will broadcast on ABC but cable-cutters can stream the program live the next day on Hulu <\/a>and Disney+. <\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tThe special revisits how creator Susan Harris\u2019 series broke ground when it premiered in 1985, putting older women \u2014 played by Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan and Estelle Getty \u2014 at the center of mainstream comedy. The program explores the show\u2019s impact on topics like aging, friendship, and female independence, and how its quick-witted writing helped it become one of television\u2019s most quoted sitcoms.<\/p>\n

\n\tIt also features archival clips, bloopers, and commentary from fans and cultural figures who credit the show with influencing generations of comedy writers and audiences alike. Its continued resonance has only grown with time \u2014 from endless streaming marathons to the \u201cGolden Girls\u201d\u2013themed drag brunches and merchandise<\/a> that keep Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia firmly in the pop-culture canon.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe Golden Girls,\u201d which originally aired on NBC from 1985 to 1992, was produced by Disney\u2019s Touchstone TV shingle, along with Witt\/Thomas\/Harris Prods. The series\u2019 seven seasons are now streaming on Hulu<\/a> and Hulu on Disney+ <\/a>for bundle subscribers; according to Disney, \u201cThe Golden Girls\u201d has been streamed over 1 billion hours globally on Disney+ and Hulu.<\/p>\n
