Your job here is to fight this climate crisis, together,\u201d UN Climate Change executive secretary Simon Stiell told delegates from more than 190 countries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">He said three decades of UN climate talks had helped to bend the curve in projected warming downward, \u201cbecause of what was agreed in halls like this, with governments legislating and markets responding. But I am not sugar-coating it. We have so much more work to do\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">Brazil\u2019s president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, warned against interests trying to obscure the dangers of climate change.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cThey attack the institutions, the science, the universities,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s time to impose another defeat to denialists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">The world\u2019s biggest historical emitter of greenhouse gases, the US, opted to skip the summit while US president Donald Trump falsely asserts that climate change is a hoax.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">California and New Mexico\u2019s governors, Gavin Newsom and Michelle Lujan Grisham, are expected in Belem today.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cWhat the hell is going on here?\u201d Mr Newsom said about the US government\u2019s absence from the talks, addressing a global investors summit held yesterday in Sao Paulo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"indo-ebe0ecc6_root indo-ebe0ecc6_paragraph indo-300db776_none indo-91174671_primary indo-1d70522a_marginbottom5 indo-1d70522a_margintop0 indo-b48c4984_inherit\" style=\"color:var(--color-primary-80)\">\u201cWe\u2019re in Brazil, one of our great trading partners, one of the world\u2019s great democracies.
