{"id":17770,"date":"2025-08-23T06:15:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T06:15:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/17770\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T06:15:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T06:15:10","slug":"rihannas-disturbia-hit-no-1-on-the-hot-100-in-2008-chart-rewind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/17770\/","title":{"rendered":"Rihanna&#8217;s &#8216;Disturbia&#8217; Hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 2008: Chart Rewind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s safe to say that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/artist\/rihanna\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rihanna<\/a> is the premier artist of the second half of the decade, with no signs of wear and tear,\u201d Michael Menachem wrote in a review of her then-new single, \u201cDisturbia,\u201d in the July 5, 2008, Billboard issue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThis latest is a sort of \u2018Thriller\u2019 for partygoers, with multilayered vocals cascading across Ri\u2019s lower register, alongside fun scatting, a la \u2018bum bum bi dum bum,\u2019\u201d the spotlight lauded. \u201cIn short order, Rihanna has become the trustworthy \u2018it\u2019 girl of our time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe same week, \u201cDisturbia\u201d debuted at No. 18 on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.billboard.com\/charts\/hot-100\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Billboard Hot 100<\/a>. Among Rihanna\u2019s prior 11 entries, she had never opened in the chart\u2019s top half (starting at a No. 51 best to that point with \u201cUnfaithful\u201d in May 2006).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSeven weeks after its arrival, \u201cDisturbia\u201d hit No. 1 on the Hot 100 dated Aug. 23, 2008. Beginning a two-week reign, it became Rihanna\u2019s fourth leader, following \u201cTake a Bow\u201d (one week, May 2008), \u201cUmbrella,\u201d featuring Jay-Z (seven weeks, June-July 2007) and \u201cSOS\u201d (three, May 2006).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cDisturbia\u201d and \u201cTake a Bow\u201d were released from the deluxe Reloaded edition, released in June 2008, of Rihanna\u2019s 2007 album Good Girl Gone Bad. \u201cUmbrella\u201d introduced the original version.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAmong the writers of \u201cDisturbia,\u201d Chris Brown earned his second of two Hot 100 No. 1s as an author. He previously led as a writer and recording artist with \u201cKiss Kiss\u201d in 2007. That hit was penned with T-Pain, who produced it and is featured on it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cDisturbia\u201d was solely produced by Brian Kennedy, who crowned the Hot 100 with his first entry in that role. He\u2019s since added two more top 10s: Kelly Clarkson\u2019s \u201cMr. Know-It-All\u201d (No. 10 peak, November 2011) and Brown\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Wake Me Up\u201d (No. 10, November 2012).
