Ruby Rose<\/a> isn\u2019t happy with the reception Christy<\/a> has gotten, and she thinks one person is to blame: Sydney Sweeney. On Threads<\/a>, the actor wrote that \u201cThe original Christy Martin script was incredible. Life changing. I was attached to play Cherry. Everyone had experience with the core material. Most of us were actually gay. It\u2019s part of why I stayed in acting.\u201d Rose then decried Sweeney and her team\u2019s statements about the film\u2019s box office.<\/a> Rose claims Team Sweeney said they made the movie for \u201cthe people,\u201d meaning gay people, but that \u201cNone of \u2018the people\u2019 want to see someone who hates them, parading around pretending to be us. You\u2019re a cretin and you ruined the film. Period. Christy deserved better.\u201d Rose appears to be referring to the rumors of Sweeney\u2019s MAGA affiliation and\/or the American Eagle Jeans\/genes controversy<\/a>. When asked by GQ<\/a> if she wanted to comment the criticism of the ad, she said \u201cI think that when I have an issue that I want to speak about, people will hear.\u201d<\/p>\n Christy debuted at number 11 on the domestic box office this past weekend<\/a>, with $1.3 million over 2000 screens. Tron: Ares<\/a> in week 5 of its run pushed Christy out of the top 10 with a $1.8 mil take. However, critics praised Sweeney. Variety<\/a> called her performance a \u201cpotent, true-note, game-changing knockout,\u201d and Vulture\u2019s Alison Willmore wrote<\/a> that it\u2019s potentially Oscar-worthy: \u201cAs a public figure, she is a blank space onto which increasingly unhinged discourse has been projected.
