Many X users tweeted this week their direct messages feature\u2014a holdover from when X was Twitter\u2014has been replaced with a \u201cChat\u201d function, an update<\/a> Musk has said will include encrypted messages like Signal or Meta\u2019s WhatsApp, file sharing and vanishing messages.<\/p>\n X users with access to the Chat feature are prompted to create a four-digit PIN code when they access it for the first time, an update that has confused<\/a> some users, who also lamented other changes to the direct messaging feature.<\/p>\n Some users allege messages in the Chat function do not display properly, with one user<\/a>, who said the update is \u201chorrific and needs to be fixed immediately,\u201d claiming all her messages show up as dead links instead of text.<\/p>\n Other users have criticized how the Chat function appears to no longer support voice messages, though Musk<\/a> has said it will allow users to make video and audio calls. <\/p>\n Some users have said<\/a> the feature is laggy and have reported difficulty accessing their conversations, particularly group chats<\/a>, with some users saying<\/a> they can\u2019t change group chat names or add users.<\/p>\n Various posts have slammed the Chat feature as “unusable<\/a>” and \u201chorrible<\/a>,\u201d with some posters taking aim at Musk<\/a> for making what they say are unnecessary<\/a> updates to the social platform. <\/p>\n This is a developing story.
