{"id":178709,"date":"2025-11-13T16:02:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-13T16:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/178709\/"},"modified":"2025-11-13T16:02:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-13T16:02:14","slug":"401k-catch-up-contribution-limits-2026-irs-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/178709\/","title":{"rendered":"401(k) catch-up contribution limits 2026: IRS update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Peter Cade | Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The IRS has announced new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/401k\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">401(k)<\/a> catch-up contribution limits for 2026.<\/p>\n<p>In its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/401k-limit-increases-to-24500-for-2026-ira-limit-increases-to-7500\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">release<\/a> on Thursday, the agency increased the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/11\/13\/401-k-contribution-limits-2026.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">401(k) contribution limit<\/a> to $24,500 for 2026, from $23,500 this year. Catch-up contributions for savers age 50 and older will also increase to $8,000, up from $7,500 in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>The limits apply to 401(k)s, 403(b)s and most 457 plans, along with the federal Thrift Savings Plan.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 401(k) catch-up contributions are even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/16\/catch-up-contributions-change-2025.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">higher for savers age 60 to 63<\/a>, thanks to a change enacted via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/01\/03\/3-changes-in-secure-2point0-for-required-minimum-distributions.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Secure 2.0<\/a>. It also comes roughly a month<strong> <\/strong>after the agency released dozens of inflation adjustments for 2026, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/09\/2026-federal-tax-brackets.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">federal income tax brackets<\/a>, higher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/09\/capital-gains-tax-2026-federal.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">capital gains brackets<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/10\/10\/irs-2026-tax-changes-child-tax-credit-family-refunds.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">provisions impacting families<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Peter Cade | Getty Images The IRS has announced new 401(k) catch-up contribution limits for 2026.
