Anthony Fox, owner of Anthony\u2019s Meat Market in Mountbellew has been serving customers in East Galway for over three decades but has decided to retire on November 22 ahead of the Christmas rush.<\/p>\n
In a social media post, Mr Fox said it\u2019s time \u201cto hang up the apron\u201d after many wonderful years of serving the Mountbellew community.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to say a heartfelt thank you to all my loyal customers, friends, neighbours, and suppliers for your incredible support and friendship over the years,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
“It\u2019s been an absolute pleasure to serve this community and to get to know so many of you. The chats, the laughs, and the stories have meant the world to me and will stay with me forever.<\/p>\n
\u201cA special word of thanks to Ollie, who\u2019s been by my side for almost 30 years. I couldn\u2019t have asked for a better workmate and friend. And of course, to my family \u2014 thank you for all your help, patience, and support through it all.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhile it\u2019s the end of an era, I\u2019ll always be grateful for the memories, the friendships, and the strong sense of community that came with running the shop. I feel proud of what we\u2019ve built together and thankful to every person who\u2019s been part of the journey.<\/p>\n
\u201cThank you all for making Anthony\u2019s Meat Market such a special part of my life \u2014 and of Mountbellew itself.\u201d<\/p>\n
The premium meat market has become renowned for its involvement in the community over its many years in operation, with many locals recounting fond memories of the shop throughout its existence.<\/p>\n
Many others expressed heartfelt well-wishes to Mr Fox following the news, with one saying: \u201cYou were always full of chat, craic and devilment. I always left your shop with a smile on my face. A true gentleman, you’ll be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another said: \u201cSorry to see my favourite butcher go in Mountbellew. [I] don\u2019t know where I\u2019ll go for my bit of meat now but thanks for all the good times and years in Mountbellew, you will be sadly missed. Congrats on the retirement and best of luck and of course thanks for the laughs, stories and chats.\u201d<\/p>\n
Others remembered the shop\u2019s involvement in local sports and expressed sadness at the loss of a local business that was seen as integral to the town\u2019s fabric.<\/p>\n
