At the time, the Church of England didn\u2019t allow divorced people to re-marry in its churches while their former spouse was still alive, so the couple were forced to choose <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/scotland\" isautogenerated=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scotland<\/a> as their location. Anne became the first royal divorcee to remarry since <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/topic\/victoria\" isautogenerated=\"true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Victoria<\/a>, Grand Duchess of Hesse and by Rhine, granddaughter of Queen Victoria, married Grand Duke Cyril Vladimirovich of Russia in 1905.<\/p>\n<p>In an ITV show that was aired ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/article\/new-portraits-of-princess-anne-released-to-mark-her-70th-birthday\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Princess Anne\u2019s 70th birthday<\/a> in August 2020 called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tatler.com\/article\/princess-anne-at-70-documentary-details\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Anne: The Princess Royal at 70<\/a> , Laurence spoke candidly about joining The Firm.
