{"id":181154,"date":"2025-11-14T23:44:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-14T23:44:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/181154\/"},"modified":"2025-11-14T23:44:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-14T23:44:08","slug":"three-counties-still-under-orange-rain-alert-with-the-worst-yet-to-come-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/181154\/","title":{"rendered":"Three counties still under orange rain alert with the worst yet to come \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Dublin, Wicklow and Wexford remain under an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/weather-ireland\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/weather-ireland\">orange rain alert<\/a> with the worst still to come, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/met-eireann\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/met-eireann\">forecasters<\/a> have warned. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Road users have been urged to exercise extreme caution while travelling tonight and people have been asked to avoid unnecessary journeys until at least 8am tomorrow when the orange warning for the three counties is lifted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A separate yellow rain warning for Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Meath, Wexford, Wicklow, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford is in place until 9am.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">There has been flooding in some areas with fallen trees making some roads impassable and local authorities along the east coast have deployed flood response teams to at risk areas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/environment\/2025\/11\/14\/live-coverage-ireland-weather-rainfall-orange-warnings\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Live updates: Risk of Storm Claudia flooding set to persist through Saturday into SundayOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Speaking on the RT\u00c9 news at 9pm, Met \u00c9ireann\u2019s senior forecaster Gerry Murphy said the storm was moving very slowly, something which lead to the rain falling for much longer than normal. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cTomorrow will still be a cloudy, murky day, but the rainfall will become lighter as we head towards morning but, over the next few hours, still more heavy rain is on the way to the east and south of the country so great care needed in these areas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">While the orange warning will be lifted shortly after dawn, the full impact of the high winds and driving rain that are sweeping across eastern parts of the country won\u2019t be felt until later this weekend with the risk of flooding set to persist throughout Saturday and into Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The National Director for Fire and Emergency Management Keith Leonard warned that Storm Claudia had caused \u201csignificant flooding right across the country and there was probably more to come\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">High winds uprooted trees and made roads impassible in Wexford while there was significant flooding in Laois and Offaly where no weather warnings were in place. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Mr Leonard said the agency would be paying close attention to the catchment areas of the rivers Slaney, Barrow and Liffey with councils on standby and ready to activate flood plans if deemed necessary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Most public transported operated on Friday but delays were reported on some ferry crossings and eight flights to and from Dublin to Leeds Bradford and Birmingham operated by Aer Lingus subsidiary Emerald Airlines were cancelled as crosswind speeds were expected to exceed safe operating levels for the propeller aircraft used by Emerald.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The DAA said that wet and windy weather would continue into Saturday morning but the airport was \u201cexpected to operate close to a full schedule.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Cork City Council made the decision to proceed with its Corkmas parade, the official start of Christmas festivities in the city despite wet and windy conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Events on Saturday are not expected to be widely disrupted once the weather warnings elapse, with the Irish rugby team set to play Australia in the Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
