<\/p>\nSpeaking to reporters on board Air Force One, the US president said he would sue the corporation for \u201canywhere between 1 billion dollars and 5 billion dollars, probably sometime next week\u201d.<\/p>\n
He had previously said he had an \u201cobligation\u201d to launch a billion-dollar lawsuit against the broadcaster, saying in an interview with Fox News that the BBC had \u201cdefrauded the public\u201d.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Friday evening, he said: \u201cI think I have to do it. They\u2019ve even admitted that they cheated\u2026 They changed the words coming out of my mouth.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe people of the UK are very angry about what happened.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a separate interview with GB News broadcast on Saturday, Mr Trump said: \u201cI\u2019m not looking to get into lawsuits, but I think I have an obligation to do it.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was so egregious. If you don\u2019t do it, you don\u2019t stop it from happening again with other people.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Thursday, the BBC said the edit of Mr Trump\u2019s speech on January 6, 2021, had given the \u201cmistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action\u201d.<\/p>\n
The broadcaster apologised and said the splicing of the speech was an \u201cerror of judgment\u201d but refused to pay financial compensation after the president\u2019s lawyers threatened to sue for one billion dollars in damages unless a retraction and apology were published.<\/p>\n
Chairman Samir Shah sent a personal letter to the White House to apologise for the editing, and lawyers for the corporation wrote to the president\u2019s legal team, a BBC spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
The spokesperson added: \u201cWhile the BBC sincerely regrets the manner in which the video clip was edited, we strongly disagree there is a basis for a defamation claim.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Trump told GB News he has had \u201ca lot of success\u201d litigating against news organisations.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause it\u2019s fake news,\u201d he said. \u201cBut I\u2019ve never had anything so fake as the BBC.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been doing this for a long time, I\u2019ve never seen anything like (the BBC edit). That\u2019s, that\u2019s the most egregious.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that was worse than the Kamala (Harris) thing with CBS and 60 Minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n
In July, US media giant Paramount agreed to pay Mr Trump 16 million dollars to settle a lawsuit over a 2024 CBS interview with Ms Harris, the former vice-president and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee.<\/p>\n
Mr Trump said his administration would be \u201cfinding out a lot of things over the next few months\u201d through litigation.<\/p>\n
He said the lawsuit would \u201cprobably\u201d be filed \u201csomeplace in the US\u201d, but said that litigation in the UK \u201cmoves a little bit quickly\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added that he would be speaking to Prime Minister Keir Starmer over the weekend.<\/p>\n
The Panorama scandal prompted the resignations of two of the BBC\u2019s most senior executives: director-general Tim Davie and news chief Deborah Turness.<\/p>\n
The programme, broadcast a week before the 2024 US election results, spliced two clips together so that Mr Trump appeared to tell the crowd: \u201cWe\u2019re going to walk down to the Capitol\u2026 and I\u2019ll be there with you. And we fight. We fight like hell.\u201d<\/p>\n

The broadcaster said it will not air the Panorama episode Trump: A Second Chance? again, and published a retraction on the show\u2019s webpage on Thursday.<\/p>\n
It said: \u201cThis programme was reviewed after criticism of how President Donald Trump\u2019s 6th January 2021 speech was edited.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring that sequence, we showed excerpts taken from different parts of the speech.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, we accept that our edit unintentionally created the impression that we were showing a single continuous section of the speech, rather than excerpts from different points in the speech, and that this gave the mistaken impression that President Trump had made a direct call for violent action.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe BBC would like to apologise to President Trump for that error of judgment.\u201d<\/p>\n
A spokesperson added: \u201cThe BBC has no plans to rebroadcast the documentary Trump: A Second Chance? on any BBC platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Thursday, reports said that the BBC faced separate accusations of misleading viewers about Mr Trump\u2019s 2021 Capitol speech more than two years before the Panorama edit aired.<\/p>\n
In an episode broadcast in June 2022, Newsnight reportedly played an edited version of his speech, similar to the one used in the Panorama programme.<\/p>\n
A BBC spokesperson said about the fresh claims, reported by The Telegraph\u2019s Daily T podcast: \u201cThe BBC holds itself to the highest editorial standards.
