Garda\u00ed are investigating the precise circumstances of the fatal incident but it is believed a dispute erupted shortly after the deceased arrived at the property in Hollyhill in the early hours of Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
He did not reside at the property where he was found badly injured.<\/p>\n
The deceased was originally from the Gurranabraher area.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed and paramedics were called to a property in the Hollyville area of Hollyhill shortly after 4am after being alerted that a male had been seriously injured.<\/p>\n

Mr O’Connell was discovered at the property bleeding profusely from an apparent stab wound to his chest.<\/p>\n
The young man was conscious when emergency services arrived but later became unresponsive.<\/p>\n
He was rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH) where, despite the desperate efforts of doctors to stabilise his condition, he died a short time later.<\/p>\n
Initial indications are that the man had suffered multiple injuries including one fatal stab wound.<\/p>\n
The Office of the State Pathologist was notified and a full post mortem examination was scheduled to be conducted at CUH.<\/p>\n
A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene by Garda\u00ed.<\/p>\n
The man detained is understood to have been known to the deceased.<\/p>\n
He was detained for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 and taken to a Cork garda station for questioning.<\/p>\n
The man can be held for up to 24 hours though this period can be extended to allow the man to avail of medical, rest and food breaks.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed are now conducting door to door inquiries in the area to determine if anyone heard or saw anything suspicious in the early hours of Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
Initial reports are that there was a disturbance or verbal dispute in the area in the early hours of Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
A full forensic and technical examination of the scene is also being conducted.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed are also checking CCTV security camera footage from the area to determine all movements to and from the property where the fatal incident is believed to have occurred.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed stressed that the nature of their investigation will be determined by the results of the post mortem examination.<\/p>\n
“A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation from the incident room at Gurranabraher Garda Station,” a Garda spokesperson said.<\/p>\n
“A Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has also been assigned to support the family of the deceased. Garda\u00ed are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward.”<\/p>\n
“Anyone with available camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, from those who were in the vicinity of Hollyville, Hollyhill, Cork city, between 3.30am and 4.30am this morning (Sunday) November 16 2025 is asked to make it available to investigating Garda\u00ed.”<\/p>\n
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Gurranabraher Garda Station on (021) 4946200, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.<\/p>\n
Locals expressed shock at the tragedy.<\/p>\n
“Everyone is stunned that this could have happened here,” one resident said.<\/p>\n
Cork North Central TD Thomas Gould expressed his sympathies to those involved.<\/p>\n
