Two people have been critically injured after a stabbing incident in Cork.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred in the Ballinlough area of Cork’s southside shortly after 7pm.<\/p>\n
It is understood a third individual – a man known to the couple – was also injured in the incident which occurred at a property in Ballinlough.<\/p>\n
The area is described as a mature housing estate just 2km from Cork city centre.<\/p>\n
The man and woman seriously injured are understood to be a husband and wife.<\/p>\n
Both are aged in their 60s and have lived in the area for some time.<\/p>\n
A weapon described as a large kitchen knife was found at the scene covered in blood.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed and emergency services raced to the property after neighbours raised the alarm.<\/p>\n

Armed garda\u00ed were deployed to the scene in support of uniformed officers.<\/p>\n
Multiple ambulances were also assigned to the scene.<\/p>\n
The injured were treated at the scene before being rushed to Cork University Hospital (CUH).<\/p>\n
Both the man and woman are understood to be in a serious\/critical condition and are being assessed for emergency surgery.<\/p>\n
A man who was found at the scene is assisting garda\u00ed with their inquiries into the precise circumstances of what happened.<\/p>\n
He is understood to have suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries in the incident.<\/p>\n
The area has been sealed off pending a full forensic and technical examination by Garda Technical Bureau members.<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed will commence door-to-door inquiries to determine the precise circumstances of the incident.<\/p>\n
It is the second stabbing incident in Cork in the space of 36 hours.<\/p>\n
A young father, Mark O’Connell (38), died after a separate and unrelated incident in Hollyhill on Cork’s northside in the early hours of last Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
He was found on a pavement outside a property in Hollyville shortly after 4am on Sunday.<\/p>\n
