{"id":188007,"date":"2025-11-19T00:03:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T00:03:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/188007\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T00:03:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T00:03:10","slug":"two-ukrainians-working-with-russia-are-suspected-of-blowing-up-polish-railway-track-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/188007\/","title":{"rendered":"Two Ukrainians working with Russia are suspected of blowing up Polish railway track \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/poland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/poland\/\">Poland<\/a> has identified two people responsible for an explosion on a railway route to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/ukraine-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/ukraine-crisis\/\">Ukraine<\/a>, prime minister <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donald-tusk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/donald-tusk\/\">Donald Tusk<\/a> said on Tuesday, adding that they were Ukrainians who collaborated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/russia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/russia\/\">Russian<\/a> intelligence and that they had fled to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/belarus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/belarus\">Belarus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The blast on the Warsaw-Lublin line, which connects the Polish capital to the Ukrainian border, followed a wave of arson, sabotage and cyberattacks in Poland and other European countries since the start of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Warsaw has said Poland has become one of Moscow\u2019s biggest targets due to its role as a hub for aid to Kyiv.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cThe most important information is that &#8230; we have identified the people responsible for the acts of sabotage,\u201d Mr Tusk told politicians, adding that they were Ukrainians who had collaborated with Russian intelligence for \u201ca long time\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIn both cases we are sure that the attempt to blow up the rails and the railway infrastructure violation were intentional and their aim was to cause a railway traffic catastrophe,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He said their identities were known but could not be revealed to the public because of ongoing investigations. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph b-it-article-body__interstitial-link\">[\u00a0<a aria-label=\"Open related story\" class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/world\/europe\/2025\/11\/17\/poland-railway-blast-was-unprecedented-act-of-sabotage-says-donald-tusk\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Poland railway blast was \u2018unprecedented act of sabotage\u2019, says Donald TuskOpens in new window<\/a>\u00a0]<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Russia has repeatedly denied being responsible for acts of sabotage and on Tuesday the Kremlin dismissed accusations of involvement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cRussia is accused of all manifestations of the hybrid and direct war that is taking place,\u201d Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a Russian state television reporter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIn Poland, let\u2019s say, everyone is trying to run ahead of the European locomotive in this regard. And Russophobia, of course, is flourishing there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In the first incident in the village of Mika, an explosive device was detonated on the track as a freight train was passing using a device connected to it by a 300m-long cable. A certain amount of explosive that did not detonate was recovered at the scene, Mr Tusk said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">He said that other trains had gone over the affected piece of track before one stopped.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">In a second incident near Pulawy, a steel clamp was installed on the track with the likely aim of derailing the train, Tusk said.
