{"id":188689,"date":"2025-11-19T09:10:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T09:10:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/188689\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T09:10:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T09:10:13","slug":"ivan-yates-to-take-aim-at-podcast-co-host-matt-cooper-at-oireachtas-committee-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/188689\/","title":{"rendered":"Ivan Yates to take aim at podcast co-host Matt Cooper at Oireachtas committee today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Regulator&#8217;s queries\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Media watchdog Coimisi\u00fan na Me\u00e1n contacted both RT\u00c9 and Newstalk regarding Mr Yates\u2019 appearances on the channels before, during, and after the election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">At the Oireachtas media committee today, Wednesday, Mr Yates is expected to take a swipe at his former  Path to Power co-host and again defend training Mr Gavin.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishexaminer.com\/presidential-election-2025\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Presidential Election\" loading=\"lazy\" style=\"margin-bottom:10px; width:100%; height:auto;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4863237_1_org_Presidential_Elections.jpg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In his opening statement, Mr Yates is due to tell the media committee that he is \u201cflabbergasted at the volume of attention which has focused on my media training\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He will note that media training is listed on his LinkedIn profile and \u201cmost people know\u201d he was a TD, adding that \u201cit hardly requires an enormous leap of imagination to think that I might have combined these interests at some point\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Podcasts &#8216;less cautious, more contrarian&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cPodcasts hold a very important space in the media ecosystem, and a major part of their attraction is that they take a looser, less cautious, more contrarian approach to issues and allow voices to be heard that are increasingly hard to hear in the so-called mainstream media,\u201d Mr Yates will say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cIn the case of  Path to Power, I don\u2019t think that anybody was tuning in to hear two versions of Matt Cooper.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4864941_5_articleinline_ptp_504_1_.jpg\" alt=\"Former 'Path to Power' co-hosts Matt Cooper and Ivan Yates. \" title=\"Former 'Path to Power' co-hosts Matt Cooper and Ivan Yates. \" class=\"card-img\"\/>Former &#8216;Path to Power&#8217; co-hosts Matt Cooper and Ivan Yates. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe contrast between the styles and approaches of Matt on the one hand and myself on the other was a major attraction for listeners or viewers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cI approached issues from a very different perspective \u2014 with deep political experience and connections and with relationships across the parties and with a real-world experience of both the economy and politics. This was part of the attraction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"contextmenu caption\">Disclimers are &#8216;a mood killer&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cA guaranteed mood-killer in that environment would have been if we had been forced to preface every debate with a disclaimer or a declaration of interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Mr Yates will tell the committee that Coimisi\u00fan na Me\u00e1n is examining the matter, and it is not their function to \u201crun a parallel investigation\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He will add: \u201cI believe my predictions\/punditry during elections were based solely on being as accurate and informative as possible. I don\u2019t believe any training role altered the way I saw the election unfolding or the performance of the various candidates.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">He will warn against creating a register of interests as part of the broadcasting bill, arguing that \u201cinstead of controlling \u2018hate speech\u2019, we could limit \u2018free speech\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">\u201cThe reality is that people who express strong opinions on topics such as migration, Trump, the &#8216;woke&#8217; agenda, and the nanny state don\u2019t conform to a mainstream media consensus.
