ATTEMPTS by delegates to overturn a Cork GAA decision to exclude media from county board meetings have been shot down for a second time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Delegates from the Carbery division, Tommy Lyons and Aidan O’Rourke, raised the matter at Tuesday’s Board meeting at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, seeking a reversal of the 2024 decision by the management committee to ban journalists from monthly meetings. However the subject was ruled out of order by Board chairman, Pat Horgan.<\/p>\n
Last February, the matter was also framed in a proposal, and seconded, but was was declared to be out of order by executive members with no vote taken.<\/p>\n
In early, 2024, Cork GAA barred journalists from attending monthly meetings. “As the agenda for County Committee has been reframed to allow more open and transparent engagement with clubs, it is no longer appropriate for the media to attend,” a Board statement said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is in line with practice at National Level, whereby the media do not attend Central Council meetings.”<\/p>\n
