Upasana Kamineni Konidela is pushing back after facing backlash over her egg freezing comment at IIT Hyderabad<\/a>. As online debate intensified, she stepped in to clarify her message, saying her intention was to spark conversation, not controversy, around women\u2019s reproductive choices and career timelines.<\/p>\n

As criticism mounted online, Upasana responded with a follow-up post, framing the reactions as part of a necessary conversation. \u201cI\u2019m happy to have sparked a healthy debate, and thank you for your respectful responses,\u201d she wrote in a post on X, later on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cStay tuned as I voice my opinions on the pleasures\/pressures of privilege. Don\u2019t forget to check out my images ! It has very important facts that will help you make the right comments. And for all those sound employers out there – let\u2019s work together to get more women into the workforce (sic).”<\/p>\n

Alongside the note, Upasana also shared what she described as a personal \u201cfact check,\u201d detailing her own journey with marriage, fertility and timing.<\/p>\n

She wrote, \u201cI married for love and companionship at 27 \u2013 a choice I made on my own terms. At 29, I decided to freeze my eggs for personal and health reasons. I welcomed my first child at 36 and am now expecting twins at 39. For me, marriage and career are not competing priorities \u2014 they are equally meaningful parts of a fulfilled life. But I decide the timeline! That\u2019s not privilege, it\u2019s my right (sic)!”<\/p>\n

During her address at IIT Hyderabad, Upasana said, \u201cThe biggest insurance for women is to freeze their eggs. Because then you can choose when to get married, when you want to have kids, on your own terms, when you are financially independent.\u201d She later posted a video of the event on X.<\/p>\n

She also observed an interesting shift in the room: \u201cMore men raised their hands than women when asked about interest in marriage. The women seemed far more career-focused. This is the new – Progressive India (sic).\u201d<\/p>\n

Her remarks drew endorsements<\/a> from some, including medical professionals and working women who resonated with her point of autonomy and planning. At the same time, others argued that her statement did not reflect broader economic and social realities, pointing out that egg freezing remains inaccessible or impractical for many women in India.<\/p>\n

With responses still pouring in<\/a>, Upasana has made it clear that she intends to continue engaging with the discussion \u2013 not just defending her stance, but framing egg freezing as one of many tools available for women navigating ambition, biology and societal timelines.<\/p>\n
