Blending love story, political reckoning, and cultural memory, the film follows the people who helped shape that journey and those now living its legacy.

At the heart of this film is the wedding of Seán and David, a quiet, deeply personal moment in the Donegal Gaeltacht, a world away from the crowds at Dublin Castle, yet only possible because of them. Around them, we meet some of the most influential voices in Ireland’s LGBTQ+ story: Senator David Norris, activist and archivist Tonie Walsh, journalist and activist Lisa Nic an Bhreithimh, and Ruadhán Ó Críodáin, an activist and director of ShoutOut – each reflecting on the past, reckoning with the present, and imagining the future.

Seán and David about to say ‘I do’ on their wedding day!

Director, Seán Ó Baoill, describes Glacaim Leat as both a love letter and a warning.

“As a filmmaker, I wanted to capture the beauty of what’s been won while also showing the fragility of it,” he said.

“Pride can be joyful, but it’s also political. This film holds those truths side by side. It’s about recognising how far we’ve come, while refusing to ignore the growing fear many young LGBTQ+ people are living with today. It’s a thank you to those who paved the way and a call not to turn away from the fight that continues.”

Shot over a year and culminating at Dublin Pride 2025, the film is a reminder that Pride is still a protest. In a climate of rising hate and political rollback, particularly around trans rights, queer families, and an increase in homophobic attacks, Glacaim Leat asks what kind of Ireland we want the next generation to inherit. As more and more young LGBTQ+ people say they no longer feel safe, the film challenges us to confront the gap between the promise of 2015 and the reality of today.

This one-hour observational documentary is a Below the Radar production for TG4, supported by the Irish Language Broadcast Fund (Northern Ireland Screen). Directed by Seán Ó Baoill and produced by Medb Ní Dhúláin, it will air at 9:30pm tonight.

Donegal couple to feature tonight in TG4 documentary on same-sex marriage was last modified: November 19th, 2025 by Staff Writer

      Tags:

Main pic: Seán Mac Ruairí & David McGoldrick on their wedding day in west Donegal earlier this year.…

[40
9,10,106201,669,18,13,14,90682,6,19,17,11,12,15,16,5,8336,7,8
0":"post-190069","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-ireland","8":"tag-breaking-news","9":"tag-breakingnews","10":"tag-donegal-gay-wedding","11":"tag-donegal-news","12":"tag-eire","13":"tag-featured-news","14":"tag-featurednews","15":"tag-glacaim-leat-documentary","16":"tag-headlines","17":"tag-ie","18":"tag-ireland","19":"tag-latest-news","20":"tag-latestnews","21":"tag-main-news","22":"tag-mainnews","23":"tag-news","24":"tag-tg4","25":"tag-top-stories","26":"tag-topstories
["GET
