{"id":190110,"date":"2025-11-20T04:11:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T04:11:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/190110\/"},"modified":"2025-11-20T04:11:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T04:11:15","slug":"department-of-transport-responds-to-taxi-drivers-concerns-over-uber","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/190110\/","title":{"rendered":"Department of Transport responds to taxi drivers concerns over Uber"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.96fm.ie\/news\/96fm-news-and-sport\/\" class=\"c-btn c-btn--small c-btn--secondary-fill\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<p>        All 96FM News &amp; Sport<br \/>\n    <\/a><\/p>\n<p>                <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aiir-c-news-figure__image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/65005926d04a0.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>\n                                    via Getty<\/p>\n<p class=\"aiir-c-news-article__abstract\">\n            The Department has responded to growing concerns from taxi drivers over Uber\u2019s recently introduced fixed fare system.\n        <\/p>\n<p>Drivers warn the move could threaten their livelihoods and undermine safety and regulatory standards in the sector.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, taxi drivers in Cork who oppose the company\u2019s fixed fare rates delivered a letter to Taoiseach Miche\u00e1l Martin\u2019s office in Turner&#8217;s Cross.<\/p>\n<p>A protest is also planned outside the D\u00e1il this Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of State Se\u00e1n Canney told the D\u00e1il that the National Transport Authority oversees taxi pricing and that Uber\u2019s fixed price option does not breach current regulations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s something that we can go back and look at from the point of view of within the department and talk to the NTA about it. But it is. but I also we have to make sure that whatever is being done at the moment I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s breaching regulations.
