The second season of the half-hour series will debut in 2027. \u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u201d serves as a prequel to \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/game-of-thrones\/\" id=\"auto-tag_game-of-thrones\" data-tag=\"game-of-thrones\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Game of Thrones<\/a>\u201d and is set roughly 100 years before the events of the mothership show. It is based on George RR Martin\u2019s \u201cTales of Dunk and Egg\u201d novellas, with <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/tv\/news\/game-of-thrones-tales-of-dunk-and-egg-series-hbo-1234889520\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2021\/tv\/news\/game-of-thrones-tales-of-dunk-and-egg-series-hbo-1234889520\/\">Variety first reporting<\/a> the show was in development in 2021. It was officially <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" data-id=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/tv\/news\/game-of-thrones-prequel-series-a-knight-of-the-seven-kingdoms-hbo-1235578466\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2023\/tv\/news\/game-of-thrones-prequel-series-a-knight-of-the-seven-kingdoms-hbo-1235578466\/\">picked up to series<\/a> in 2023. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe series follows the adventures of Westerosi hedge knight Ser Duncan \u201cDunk\u201d the Tall and his diminutive squire Egg. Peter Claffey stars as Ser Duncan, while Dexter Sol Ansell plays Egg. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe renewal announcement came during a press presentation by HBO and HBO Max Content chairman and CEO Casey Bloys on Thursday in New York. Bloys also announced that fellow \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d prequel \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/pc8uak-1lGADk\" target=\"_blank\">has been renewed for Season 4<\/a>, with Season 3 of that show premiering in summer 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the \u2018Game of Thrones\u2019 universe,\u201d said Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO Programming and head of HBO Drama Series and Films. \u201cTogether, \u2018House of the Dragon\u2019 and \u2018A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u2019 reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin\u2019s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully. And this summer, \u2018House of the Dragon\u2019 is set to ignite once again with some of its most epic battles yet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAlong with Claffey and Ansell, the cast of \u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u201d includes Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, Danny Webb, Sam Spruell, Shaun Thomas, Finn Bennett, Edward Ashley, Tanzyn Crawford, Henry Ashton, Youssef Kerkour, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, and Daniel Monks. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMartin co-created the series with Ira Parker. Both are executive producers, with Parker also serving as showrunner. Sarah Bradshaw, Owen Harris, Ryan Condal, and Vince Gerardis also executive produce.
