Manjima Mohan opens up on body-shaming, health battles and reclaiming confidence beyond cinema.<\/p>\n

Actress Manjima Mohan, who began her journey in Malayalam cinema as a child artist, made a notable comeback as a lead in Vineeth Sreenivasan\u2019s 2015 film \u2018Oru Vadakkan Selfie\u2019 after a long break. Though her performances were widely appreciated, Manjima faced relentless criticism over her body weight.<\/p>\n

Cruel remarks about her appearance had often circulated on social media. In a recent interview, she opened up about how those comments affected her mental well-being, admitting that certain remarks from stylists made her feel vulnerable and insecure, especially in the early stages of her return to cinema.<\/p>\n

“Cinema is only a part of my life. Yes, maybe losing weight would have brought me a few more roles. But beyond that, no one really cares how I look. I have goals that go beyond just being on screen,” she shared.<\/p>\n

She also revealed that it was a difficult phase, physically and emotionally, and that she had even consulted doctors to explore the possibility of undergoing surgery to lose weight. \u201cI just wanted to lose weight somehow,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Despite the constant pressure, Manjima emphasised that health should be the real focus, not numbers on a scale. “I had PCOD. Even though I was slightly overweight, I believed I was healthy. But managing PCOD was crucial.”<\/p>\n

Her most recent film appearance was in \u2018Boo\u2019 (2023), directed by A L Vijay, which was released in both Tamil and Telugu.<\/p>\n
