The renewal announcement came during an HBO press presentation in New York, where CEO Casey Bloys also announced that the other \u201cGame of Thrones\u201d prequel series, the upcoming \u201cA Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,\u201d was also <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/pc8uak-1lGABY\" target=\"_blank\">renewed for second season<\/a> before its first season debut on Jan. 18. The second season is slated for 2027, meaning \u201cThrones\u201d fans will have new dispatches out of Westeros every year through 2028.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBased on George R. R. Martin\u2019s \u201cFire &amp; Blood,\u201d \u201cHouse of the Dragon\u201d follows the Targaryen family 200 years before the events of \u201cGame of Thrones.\u201d (In other words, a handful of generations before the birth of Daenerys.) It stars Matt Smith, Emma D\u2019Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, Phia Saban, Jefferson Hall, Matthew Needham, James Norton, Tom Bennett, Kieran Bew, Kurt Egyiawan, Freddie Fox, Clinton Liberty, Gayle Rankin and Abubakar Salim.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tRyan Condal is the creator and showrunner, executive producing alongside co-creator Martin, Sara Hess, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Vince Gerardis, David Hancock and Philippa Goslett.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cWe are thrilled to be able to deliver new seasons of these two series for the next three years, for the legion of fans of the \u2018Game of Thrones\u2019\u00a0universe,\u201d said Francesca Orsi, the EVP of HBO programming and head of the cabler\u2019s drama series and films. \u201cTogether, \u2018House of the Dragon\u2019 and \u2018A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms\u2019 reveal just how expansive and richly imagined George R. R. Martin\u2019s universe continues to be. In January, I think audiences will be delighted by the inspiring underdog tale of Dunk and Egg that George and Ira Parker have captured so beautifully.
