An 18-year-old man has been remanded in custody after being charged with the manslaughter of Ryan Weir Gibbons in Kildare Town.<\/p>\n
Ryan Murphy, from Curragh Plains in Kildare Town, appeared before Naas District Court this morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He was arrested earlier at his home.<\/p>\n
The charge relates to an incident on 26th October, when Mr Weir Gibbons was found unresponsive on the Dublin Road and later died in hospital.<\/p>\n
The court heard there had been an earlier exchange between both men on a bus.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Detective Sergeant Pat Dunne said Mr Murphy had been travelling with friends after a night out and that a verbal dispute broke out when Mr Weir Gibbons asked the group to quieten down.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Both men got off at separate stops but encountered each other again shortly after 3am, when an alleged altercation took place.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s alleged a single blow caused Mr Weir Gibbons to fall to the ground.<\/p>\n
During a bail application, the defence said Mr Murphy will claim he acted in self-defence and noted he had presented himself to garda\u00ed on the morning of the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Garda\u00ed objected to bail, citing the seriousness of the charge.<\/p>\n
Judge Desmond Zaidan refused bail and remanded Mr Murphy in custody.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He will appear again via video link next Wednesday.<\/p>\n
