{"id":194693,"date":"2025-11-22T17:36:13","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T17:36:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/194693\/"},"modified":"2025-11-22T17:36:13","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T17:36:13","slug":"buttevant-see-off-plucky-ahane-to-book-final-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/194693\/","title":{"rendered":"Buttevant see off plucky Ahane to book final spot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Buttevant: 2-15 (2-0-15)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ahane: 0-11 (0-1-9)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Another big victory for Buttevant in the provincial arena as they got past Ahane of Limerick in the AIB Munster Club JFC semi-final at Kildorrery on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The Avondhu outfit hammered Shamrocks by 25 points in the quarter-final, but they were tested in this one against a gallant Ahane side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Buttevant ended up with six different scorers, just two points coming from frees and surprisingly enough, no orange flags.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">After a slow start, a strong second quarter resulted in Buttevant leading by six points at the short whistle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The game was still in the melting pot in the closing stages. The Avondhu team led by four points until a black card for Ahane\u2019s P\u00e1draig Harnett changed the momentum of the game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The eventual winners finished well to win by 10 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Joey Hanlon\u2019s team will now take on Kerry\u2019s Ballymacelligott in the decider in two weeks.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4870209_12_articleinlinemobile_dan_20ahane_204.jpg\" alt=\" Kevin Lenahan, Buttevant, bursting past Liam \u00d3g Glynn, Ahane. Picture: Dan Linehan<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Buttevant made a fast start with a Conor Hanlon point after 20 seconds, but it was a nervy start from them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Ahane replied with well-worked efforts from D\u00f3nal Dawson and Ronan Fox.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">After seven minutes though, Buttevant goaled, which was a real settler.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">An inspirational run from captain Mark Lenahan resulted in the forward unleashing a powerful shot into the roof of the net.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The teams traded points in what was a very even start, 1-2 to 0-3 after 10 minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Conor Hanlon kicked over a straightforward free, but their opposition were structured and brave and a pair of Liam \u00d3g Glynn efforts, one which was a free, left Ahane a point behind with 13 minutes to the break.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Buttevant finished the half better as they slowly got into their stride. Picture: Dan Linehan<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">There was definitely an improved display from Buttevant on the resumption with sub Kevin Sheehan and a Conor Hanlon free tacking on efforts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">There was a lull though as Ahane kicked over three unanswered points, all from Glynn with two coming from frees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Buttevant always had that extra gear to push on. Conor Hanlon extended the advantage to six points until Buttevant\u2019s goalkeeper Ronan Donovan was called into action to deny Harnett a goal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">With a quarter of the game remaining, Ahane were still within distance of their opposition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The teams swapped points with midfielder Gavin Rowsome playing a key part in Ahane remaining in the game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A Dawson orange flag left Ahane four points adrift after 51 minutes, 1-12 to 0-11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A crucial moment came three minutes from time when Harnett received a black card for a cynical foul.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/4870230_2_articleinlinemobile_dan_20ahane_201.jpg\" alt=\" Buttevant players David Hanlon and Aaron Trimm putting pressure on Ahane keeper Tristan O'Sullivan. They scored 1-3 without reply to win by 10 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">David Hanlon with the goal right at the very end.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">It just wasn\u2019t Ahane\u2019s day.
