In the U.S., Montana\u2019s Glacier National Park and Medicine Rocks State Park are in the path, as is Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota.<\/p>\n<p>Only about 5.5 million live within the path of the 2044 total solar eclipse, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/solar\/2044-august-23\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"color-link\" title=\"https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/solar\/2044-august-23\" data-ga-track=\"ExternalLink:https:\/\/www.timeanddate.com\/eclipse\/solar\/2044-august-23\" aria-label=\"Timeanddate\">Timeanddate<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A map showing the path of totality on August 22, 2044. The Last Frontier state will experience totality for up to 2 minutes and 37 seconds during the best time of the year for Northern Lights. Places in the path of totality will include St. Lawrence Island, Barrow (also known as Utqiagvik), Kotzebue, and Nome. <\/p>\n<p>Big Diomede Island in Russia (Tomorrow Island) and Little Diomede in the U.S. (Yesterday Island) are split by the International Date Line, so Big Diomede will experience totality one day ahead of Little Diomede. <\/p>\n<p>This eclipse will occur at the peak time for the Northern Lights in Alaska, with auroras being twice as likely to appear close to the March equinox. <\/p>\n<p>Total Solar Eclipses In The U.s. In The 21st Century<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. is in a golden age of total solar eclipses. The U.S. has already experienced two total solar eclipses this century, on Aug. 21, 2017, and April 8, 2024.
