{"id":197303,"date":"2025-11-24T08:29:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T08:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/197303\/"},"modified":"2025-11-24T08:29:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T08:29:10","slug":"world-bank-lifts-kenyas-growth-forecast-on-construction-sector-optimism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/197303\/","title":{"rendered":"World Bank lifts Kenya&#8217;s growth forecast on construction sector optimism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Nov 24 (Reuters) &#8211; The World Bank lifted Kenya&#8217;s economic growth forecast for this year to almost 5% on Monday, citing a pick up in the construction sector in East Africa&#8217;s largest economy.<\/p>\n<p>Some of Kenya&#8217;s main industries like construction suffered last year, partly as concerns mounted about the government&#8217;s finances, but the trend has begun to reverse, the development lender said.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"promo-box\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__dark-grey__UFC18 text-module__regular__qJJtA text-module__small__sph8i body-module__base__o--Cl body-module__small_body__gOmDf article-body-module__promo-box__hVl8h\"> Sign up  <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/world-bank-lifts-kenyas-growth-forecast-construction-sector-optimism-2025-11-24\/undefined?location=article-paragraph&amp;redirectUrl=%2Fworld%2Fafrica%2Fworld-bank-lifts-kenyas-growth-forecast-construction-sector-optimism-2025-11-24%2F\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Signs of recovery are emerging,&#8221; a new report on Kenya&#8217;s economy said, adding that the rebound in construction in the first half of 2025 had offset a slowdown in manufacturing.<\/p>\n<p>The result is that the economy is now projected to grow by 4.9% this year, up from the World Bank&#8217;s <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/world-bank-cuts-kenyas-2025-growth-forecast-private-sector-squeezed-2025-05-27\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">May forecast<\/a> of 4.5%, and maintain that rate of growth over the next two years.Risks to the outlook stem from international trade uncertainty, including the expiry of a U.S. trade deal with the region, and ongoing <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/kenya-target-budget-deficit-49-gdp-202627-2025-11-19\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fiscal consolidation<\/a> that could curb government spending, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Government officials say Kenya&#8217;s economic expansion has also been negatively affected by a heavy public debt burden characterised by high annual repayments that have absorbed much of its revenue.<\/p>\n<p>The government has turned to measures like loans <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/kenya-taps-development-banks-airport-expansion-after-ditching-adani-deal-2025-08-11\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">securitised<\/a> on a motorists&#8217; road maintenance levy on petrol prices to raise funds to pay road contractors who had abandoned sites last year due to lack of payment.It is also in talks with the International Monetary Fund to secure a <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/kenya-hold-follow-up-meetings-with-imf-new-programme-2025-11-04\/\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">new financial support programme<\/a>.
