{"id":1995,"date":"2025-08-16T08:38:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-16T08:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/1995\/"},"modified":"2025-08-16T08:38:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-16T08:38:08","slug":"pwc-keeps-tight-rein-on-irish-staffs-office-attendance-the-irish-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/1995\/","title":{"rendered":"PwC keeps tight rein on Irish staff\u2019s office attendance \u2013 The Irish Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Big Four accountancy group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/pwc\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/pwc\/\">PwC <\/a>is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/work\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/work\/\">monitoring staff attendance<\/a> at its Irish offices, according to current and former staff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">It comes in the wake of reports that the firm\u2019s UK office uses a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/08\/13\/traffic-light-dashboard-lets-pwc-in-uk-monitor-office-attendance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/business\/2025\/08\/13\/traffic-light-dashboard-lets-pwc-in-uk-monitor-office-attendance\/\">traffic-light system to monitor staff compliance<\/a> with an instruction to work from the office or client sites three days every week. Staff who slip below 60 per cent of required days are flagged as orange. They are moved to red if they attend for fewer than 40 per cent of mandated days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Staff who breach the policy can face formal sanctions, with their performance evaluations and bonuses potentially affected, according to guidance for staff seen by the Financial Times, which said some staff had expressed unease about the approach. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">PwC\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/tags\/dublin\/\">Dublin<\/a> staff say a similar regime operates in the Irish offices. People were required to reach their quota of in-office days each week, they said, and are not allowed flexibility to average the three days a week over, say, a month-long period.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">Staff living far from Dublin under previous hybrid work arrangements were told they had no choice but to make themselves available in the office three times a week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">\u201cIt\u2019s here around a year now and is tracked incredibly closely,\u201d said a former staff member.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">One current staff member confirmed the monitoring scheme was in place in the office but was observed with differing levels of diligence by different teams.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">A spokeswoman for PwC noted that \u201cworking together three days a week (in the office or at a client site) has been the position for a long time\u201d. She added: \u201cComing out of last summer (2024), we did set this as an expectation for all groups. We do ask all our teams to comply with this.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph paywall \">The firm operates a swipe-card system, allowing it to monitor office presence.
