Listen and find all the details below.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"post-content-read-more\">\n<li><b>Read More:<\/b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/features\/music-interviews\/cardinals-cork-band-roseland-interview-radar-3586733\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Cardinals: the Cork indie band set on writing future classics<\/b><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The gloomy song will appear on the Cork band\u2019s debut studio album, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/cardinals-announce-long-awaited-debut-album-masquerade-with-vulnerable-title-track-3892735\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Masquerade\u2019<\/a>, which is out on February 13 via So Young (<a href=\"https:\/\/cardinals.lnk.to\/Masquerade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">pre-order\/pre-save here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s very much inspired by the history of our city and the Gaol house that stood on the South Gate Bridge many years ago,\u201d explained frontman Euan Manning. \u201cLyrically, I had hoped to evoke images of silhouetted city walls and security fences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued: \u201cSometimes aesthetics can carry a song from its inception to its completion. Kevin Barry\u2019s novel City Of Bohane also served as inspiration for a gothic re-imagining of Cork.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the chorus, he sings: \u201cOnce more like you really meant it\/ All fours and all six senses\/ Once more for the great big entrance\/ South Gate with the barbed wire fences\/ And I can hardly breathe\/ Alcohol and ecstasy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The track arrives with a suitably grainy, black-and-white official music video, directed by Xander Lewis. Tune in here:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Barbed Wire\u2019 marks the fourth single from the upcoming \u2018Masquerade\u2019, following on from its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/cardinals-announce-long-awaited-debut-album-masquerade-with-vulnerable-title-track-3892735\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">title track<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/cardinals-share-love-song-from-beyond-the-grave-big-empty-heart-3868639\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018Big Empty Heart\u2019<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/listen-to-cardinals-menacing-new-single-the-burning-of-cork-3900676\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u2018The Burning Of Cork\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking previously about the LP, Manning described it as shifting from \u201cthe brittle honesty of folk to the theatrical melodrama of goth-rock\u201d throughout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSomething the record looks at is peeling back the \u2018masquerade\u2019 or the facade we all put up,\u201d he added. \u201cThe curtain is pulled and cynicism takes its place \u2013 it\u2019s really easy to be cynical and far harder to be hopeful and genuine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Cardinals are set to showcase the album on a UK and Ireland headline tour in March. Dates are scheduled in Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Bristol, London, Manchester, Newcastle and Glasgow. It\u2019s good to have a sound, obviously, but we want to keep pushing forward.
