Cork\u2019s independent coffee shops will staying up late again this week, putting on live music and fun activities – showcasing that there can be more to an evening out than a boozy tipple.<\/strong><\/p>\n It’s part of the Coffee House Lates initiative, which encourages coffee shops across the city stay to open into the night to boost Cork’s caf\u00e9 culture after dark. The project is part of Cork City Council<\/a>‘s Cork Night Time Economy initiative, organised by the Cork Business<\/a> Association (CBA), and has proven a hit with revellers looking for an alternative to the pub scene. It follows a hugely successful event last November when 12 caf\u00e9s stayed open late<\/a>, offering music and activities.<\/p>\n Cork city does not have many casual caf\u00e9 options past 7 or 8pm at night, but the CBA has been trying to change that<\/a> by inviting Leeside’s independent coffee shops to dip their toes in the water by going all the way to 10pm on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28. One spot with a permanent closing time of 10pm is the Boname Patisserie on North Main Street<\/a>, which opened in May. The Old Town Taqueria, launched last year<\/a>, also lists opening hours until 11pm.<\/p>\n Fiona Collins, Cork City\u2019s Nighttime Economy Advisor, said: \u201cFollowing the success of last year\u2019s events, we are continuing our push to diversify Cork\u2019s nighttime economy, and this is a great initiative that redefines what a night out in Cork city can be. The diversity of things to do at night is the hallmark of the urban experience and Cork should be no different.\u201d<\/p>\n Dave O\u2019Brien, President of the Cork Business Association, added: \u201cThis initiative is designed to celebrate our caf\u00e9 culture and the discovery of new evening spaces.
