{"id":201486,"date":"2025-11-26T16:38:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-26T16:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/201486\/"},"modified":"2025-11-26T16:38:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-26T16:38:10","slug":"worlds-central-banks-are-wary-of-ai-and-struggling-to-quit-the-dollar-survey-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ie\/201486\/","title":{"rendered":"World&#8217;s central banks are wary of AI and struggling to quit the dollar, survey shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul data-testid=\"Summary\" class=\"summary-module__summary__QjADA\">\n<li data-testid=\"Body\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__dark-grey__UFC18 text-module__regular__qJJtA text-module__small__sph8i body-module__base__o--Cl body-module__small_body__gOmDf summary-module__point__UgXPz\">Central banks cautious about AI risks, survey finds<\/li>\n<li data-testid=\"Body\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__dark-grey__UFC18 text-module__regular__qJJtA text-module__small__sph8i body-module__base__o--Cl body-module__small_body__gOmDf summary-module__point__UgXPz\">AI mainly used for basic tasks, not core operations<\/li>\n<li data-testid=\"Body\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__dark-grey__UFC18 text-module__regular__qJJtA text-module__small__sph8i body-module__base__o--Cl body-module__small_body__gOmDf summary-module__point__UgXPz\">Dollar remains dominant despite desire to diversify reserves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>LONDON, Nov 26 (Reuters) &#8211; Artificial Intelligence is not a core part of operations at most of the world&#8217;s central banks and digital assets are off the table, according to a survey released on Wednesday by the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum.<\/p>\n<p>The working group of 10 central banks from Europe, Africa, Latin America and Asia managing roughly $6.5 trillion in assets also found that the institutions that have delved deepest so far into AI are the most cautious about the risks.<\/p>\n<p data-testid=\"promo-box\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__dark-grey__UFC18 text-module__regular__qJJtA text-module__small__sph8i body-module__base__o--Cl body-module__small_body__gOmDf article-body-module__promo-box__hVl8h\"> Sign up  <a data-testid=\"Link\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/sustainability\/sustainable-finance-reporting\/worlds-central-banks-are-wary-ai-struggling-quit-dollar-survey-shows-2025-11-26\/undefined?location=article-paragraph&amp;redirectUrl=%2Fsustainability%2Fsustainable-finance-reporting%2Fworlds-central-banks-are-wary-ai-struggling-quit-dollar-survey-shows-2025-11-26%2F\" class=\"text-module__text__0GDob text-module__inherit-color__PhuPF text-module__inherit-font__1P1hv text-module__inherit-size__EyiQW link-module__link__INqxZ link-module__underline_default__-okuC\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The primary concern is that AI-driven behaviour could &#8220;accelerate future crises,&#8221; the survey showed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;AI helps us see more, but decisions must remain with people,&#8221; one participant was quoted as saying in the group&#8217;s report.<\/p>\n<p>More than 60% of respondents said that AI tools &#8211; which have sparked layoffs already at technology companies and retail and investment banks &#8211; are not yet supporting core operations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Most early applications centred on routine analytical tasks rather than risk management or portfolio construction,&#8221; the report found.<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, most central banks are using AI mainly for basic work, such as summarising data or scanning markets.<\/p>\n<p>The vast majority of the banks, 93%, also do not invest in digital assets, according to the survey, which found that &#8220;tokenisation is viewed with interest and cryptocurrencies with caution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The group included six banks from G20 countries and two from the G7.<\/p>\n<p>The survey revealed that banks view the world as hurtling toward a multipolar system &#8211; sparking a desire to diversify, but also focus on resilience and liquidity, which narrows the reserves they will consider.<\/p>\n<p>While nearly 60% want to diversify away from the dollar, the unmatched liquidity of U.S. Treasuries kept the U.S. currency anchored.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are moving from a bipolar to a multipolar reserve system, but the euro is not ready yet to lead,&#8221; one working group participant was quoted as saying in the survey.<\/p>\n<p>The dollar&#8217;s status as the world&#8217;s top reserve currency has been called into question this year given U.S. President Donald Trump&#8217;s tariff policies and concern about Federal Reserve independence.
