Tributes are pouring in for a “lovely” Cork<\/a> woman and talented golfer who sadly passed away following a “long and brave battle” with illness.<\/strong><\/p>\n Mair\u00e9ad Manning from Glanmire died peacefully in the presence of her loving family at Marymount Hospice yesterday. She is remembered as a “lovely person” who was “full of fun”, and for her passion for pitch and putt, which she played with St. Stephen’s Pitch and Putt Club. In her time with the sport, Mair\u00e9ad won a number of local and national competitions and claimed three All-Ireland titles.<\/p>\n In a heartfelt tribute posted on social media<\/a>, the official Pitch and Putt Ireland group said the Cork woman was a “top class player” and shared many of her impressive achievements over the years. This included her “ultra-impressive performance” in the 2016 National Ladies Junior Strokeplay Championship, and her becoming the fifth player in history<\/a> to win both the National Ladies Junior and Intermediate Strokeplay Championships.<\/p>\n Mair\u00e9ad’s many achievements also included winning the 2018 National Mixed Foursomes with clubmate Dave Towler, as well as winning the Munster Intermediate Matchplay Championship twice.<\/p>\n A spokesperson for the organisation added: “Mairead was totally dedicated to the St. Stephen\u2019s club where her father Jim is a prominent member (and former Club Captain). Mairead was a Presidents\u2019 Prize winner at the club, which she served administratively in roles such as Secretary, Competitions Secretary and Lady Captain.<\/p>\n “Sincere sympathy is extended to Jim, Mairead\u2019s wider family and friends and to the St. Stephen\u2019s club.” They thanked Mair\u00e9ad’s father, John, for helping with their tribute to his daughter.<\/p>\n A number of Mair\u00e9ad’s friends and Cork golfing clubs have also paid tribute to her online. The St. Stephen’s Pitch and Putt Club team wrote on Facebook: “The club is deeply saddened and extends its sympathies to Jim Manning and family on the passing of our friend and clubmate Mairead earlier this evening. As a mark of respect the club will close for the day tomorrow (Wed).”<\/p>\n One friend of Mair\u00e9ad also wrote: “I met Mairead through my sister. Mairead was such a lovely person, full of fun! Rest in peace Mairead, may you get the best bed in heaven. Sincere condolences to all your family & friends.”<\/p>\n Another added: “Terribly sad news, larger than life and loved our sport, my condolences to Jim and family.”<\/p>\n Mair\u00e9ad’s RIP notice says she was the “dearly beloved daughter of Jim and the late Pauline, much loved sister of Fergus, Elmarie (Twomey) and Cormac, loving sister-in-law of Regina, Robert and Helena, adored auntie of Bobby, Frankie, James, Michael, Daniel, Beth, Cathal, Iarlaith, Aoibh and the late baby Jack.”<\/p>\n She will be reposing at Barry Bros. Funeral Home, Hazelwood, Glanmire on Thursday (November 27th) from 5.00pm to 6.00pm. Mair\u00e9ad’s requiem mass will take place at 3.00pm on Friday (November 28th) in St. Joseph\u2019s Church, Springhill, Glanmire which can be viewed online here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Funeral afterwards to the Island Crematorium, Rocky Island, Ringaskiddy, Co.
