But recently, the OSIRIS-APEX probe took incredible photos of the Earth during its journey to the asteroid Apophis.

For this, it is necessary to know that this probe is heading towards this celestial object in order to study it. Indeed, this asteroid will pass about 32,000 km from Earth on April 13, 2029, which is an exceptional event. And that’s not all, because when it gets close to Apophis, it will spend 18 months mapping it to study its composition.

But one of the most remarkable facts will be an approach of about 5 meters from this asteroid. Once this maneuver is completed, the probe will turn on its engines to stir up dust and collect it. And recently, OSIRIS-APEX flew close to Earth to use its gravitational pull and increase its speed. During its flyby, it photographed our planet from a distance of 228,000 km using the MapCam camera, revealing unique details.

Alexis Stegmann, 2025-11-29 (Update: 2025-11-29)

10

NASA has conducted various missions to study many structures in our universe.
